This is one of the few Oldfield albums I do not have have on CD, and one of my real favourites! I have a treasured copy on vinyl, just a pity I don't have a turntable anymore.

Anyone know if Mike will issue a 'deluxe' version of this CD once he has gone through the rest of his virgin material?

Can't find a reasonably priced copy of this on CD anywhere. Amazon currently wanting £50 for a second hand copy! :O Rip Off!!!

Oh, Lord... I don't want to start all this again!

I can't direct you to my memory at the moment; suffice to say that Korgscrew has been told that the likes of OTB and Exposed will be looked at when the studio albums have been dealt with, and a decision about new editions will be made then.

Collectors and genuinely interested buyers have been depleting the 2000 re-issue stocks over the years.  You can still pick up the last three, but the closer each re-release comes round...  I remember thinking about getting another Exposed around 2009.  When I next gave it thought it was 2011 and £10 or so for a new copy had reached £130...

Cavalier (Lost Version)...Start what again??? :/

You can't buy Discovery for a reasonable price either, this is the only other album (apart from some of the compilations) that I don't have on CD. But am more than happy to wait for the re-issue in 2014 for that one.

I just don't understand why the record companies don't issue more copies of CD's when there are people out there who want to buy them. If 2nd hand copies are being sold at inflated prices, because there are no new copies to be had, then that money is not going to the record companies... do they not want to make money?

That's what they're doing...just rather slowly! I think, on balance, Universal have probably made the right choice, concentrating on making the reissues as interesting to fans as they can be (though of course there have been some quite controversial omissions, which seem to have been driven by Mike). They had to repackage them somehow - they have the rights to the music and the cover artwork, but they wouldn't have been allowed to simply reprint the Virgin booklets, so I suppose the choice was to either reissue very basic editions and get them out quickly, or take a bit longer and make them a bit more interesting. I think they also imagined it happening a bit faster than it has done...but, with Mike seemingly working on Amarok now, it could be that a lot come out very quickly now, as he'll probably be less involved with Discovery, The Killing Fields, Islands and Earth Moving.

I was going to say to not pay too much attention to those Amazon Marketplace sellers who sell stuff for inflated prices - they do it with everything, scarce or not - but I've had a quick  trawl elsewhere and not had any luck finding anything for under £30 either. Looking through completed listings on ebay, it looks like the original editions go for less (one as cheap as £2.20) than the remastered ones (which seem to go for £25 - £30). I'll actually bet if you can find one in a second hand shop, you'll pay a whole lot less than that. I have this feeling I've seen one somewhere quite recently, I can always let you know if I find it (or another) again...

Like Cavalier said, Exposed definitely hasn't been forgotten about in reissue terms (or at least hadn't been last I asked), it's just being left until the end. It might not be reissued in the exact same form - they've got tapes for, if I remember right, all the gigs on that tour (and if not, then at least a fair number of them), so it's not impossible that they'll do some kind of set of the lot...but obviously that depends on a lot of things, not least whether Mike will approve their release or not!

Apologies, Chrissy - there's a related topic a few lines down, in which I chased down recollections of posts read that concerned mentions of Exposed.  Korgscrew has ridden to the rescue again - just as well as I can't begin to remember where to look this time! ;)

Hmmm....

I wonder if that means it's worth doing EXPOSED as an Oldfield and Related JOESHOW Special???

I hope when they get around to Exposed they issue the original 4ch mix which fed the SQ release. Love to hear it in all its glory!

I never got to hear the remastered Exposed CD. I tried to order one a few years ago when it was still available. When it arrived at the record store, there was an Ommadawn CD in the case. The front cover was Ommadawn, and the rear cover was from Exposed. The store re-ordered it, and it happened again! I wonder how many were packaged like that?

I'd actually really like them to do that with all of them. I know the quad mix of Tubular Bells was released on SACD (which I have), but even that's long since out of print (not to mention the fact the format's never really taken off like its creators might have hoped).

I was once told that Simon Heyworth had even transferred the original quad mix of Incantations to digital around the same time he did Tubular Bells, but Simon denied that when I asked him (though he made a vague indication that the tape does exist, or at least did around 1998). I certainly think the Hergest Ridge 4 track quad master was found around that time (I think I was sent a picture of it by someone who visited Simon at the time - Marcus Junglas if I'm not mistaken). I personally vastly prefer the Ommadawn SQ mix to the 2010 surround remix, so it'd be nice to have that...

I think Exposed heard in quad is a wonderful thing, so it'd be great if that experience could be available to more people. I have this feeling, from having heard the live Incantations that way, that the studio version would make a certain amount more sense (not that it doesn't make sense currently) heard as it was originally conceived - for example, the nine notes in the opening of Part One give you one for each corner, one for each in-between position and one for the very centre (which is certainly how Phil Newell positioned them in the Exposed SQ mix). Some of the call and response sections also seem to take on a, extra dimension (I suppose they fairly literally do) when they're between two corners rather than just two sides of a stereo mix.

That feeling of being more immersed in the arena is also quite something with Exposed!

It'd make a nice boxed set - Tubular Bells, Hergest Ridge, Ommadawn, Incantations and Exposed in their original quad mixes, in a high quality modern surround format. Any time I've tried to suggest that, it's not really been greeted with any enthusiasm, though. Perhaps if there's enough evidence of there being fan demand...

Well I'd be very interested ! I'm sure the guys over at quadraphonicquad.com would be up for it as well.
Perhaps the time has come for these specialised mixes to be on download only, that should at least reduce the cost to the producers in not having to create a load of physical stock. And am I really interested in a booklet ? well yes but it's not a deal breaker.
While the software decodes are first class only the originals will be how Mike et all wanted them to be heard.

Probably not news to most people here, but I noticed that the latest batch of endless Pink Floyd rereleases come with blu-ray discs featuring "5.1 mixes available in DTS-HD Master Audio or LPCM". Some have their old quad mix too.  http://www.quadraphonicquad.com/QQ-PFQ.htm  they also mention some 5.1 mixes they did but didn't release on SACD and are now releasing on blu-ray.

At some point in the future, as the last erg of fossil fuel power is spent and humanity wonders where it all went, I fear that they will pinpoint the moment when I finally install umpteen speakers for the full channel experience. :/   I'm always theoretically in favour of good quality releases of these favourite albums, but will just have to hope that they sound good out of my laptop or TV!

Changing the subject slightly .
Did anyone buy the USA release called Airborne ?
Which had a live and studio conbination of Incantations on one LP and a completely different live version of TB1 from the same tour that Exposed came from on the other LP.
It even had one of the Monty Python team introducing the instruments at the end of part one .
Would be nice to have a box set of the tour as well as quad mixes .
Ps , I still have my paper dart given out at the gig at Wemberly .

It looks as if there may be some new releases due in - Amazon UK is currently showing 'Exposed' as a vinyl re-issue available from the 02/12/2016. It is unclear if this is to accompany a CD / digital release. It is also worth noting that a further album, entitled 'Collaborations' will be available on vinyl from the same date.

Judging from the artwork 'Collaborations' might be a new vinyl issue of material previously included with the original 'Boxed' set, which might suggest that 'Boxed' is not going to be released in a remastered format, or is to be re-issued with new material. This might seem odd given that the Quad remixes on 'Boxed' are presumably considered to have been superseded by the 'Deluxe' versions of TB/Om/HR.

Just thought this might be of interest.

I hope there will be a digital download of both remastered albums, too.

Since this was the first Oldfield album I ever bought, it's always had a special place in my heart. As I already owned a few of the singles I felt like I was getting two albums for the price of one. I love the "edit" of Incantations which is one of my all time fav albums.

I don't own it on CD and whilst I would love a deluxe edition I thought in the meantime I would try and get a good quality download, couldn't find one but then realised there was a download code with the 2016 vinyl.

Just bought it from Amazon and was expecting an mp3 download and was pleasantly surprised to discover it was in fact a 24/96 hi res download.

Transfered on to a DVD and listening as we speak.

Excellent.
