Hello hello hello.

Hmm...haven't posted here for a while...

Anyway, let's give this a go. This is a very simple proposition: all you need to do is say what your favourite album, song, instrumental (long) and instrumental (short) by Mike Oldfield. Then, at the end of the year, the top x or so in each category will be listed just to show what the general trend amongst fans here is. It's all a bit of fun, and you don't have to join in if you don't want to.

Rules:
  • Only one nomination per category per person
  • Nominations are limited to official releases by Mike Oldfield- either on albums or singles from Tubular Bells to the Best of Tubular Bells (and the MVR pieces). Pieces on Boxed, the Complete, Elements etc. can be nominated, but pieces from Children of the Sun, Kevin Ayers etc. cannot
  • Short/long instrumental cut-off: a long instrumental is anything longer than Orabidoo

So, all you have to do is send an email to me (timhighfield@hotmail.com), saying something like this:

Album: Heaven's Open
Song: On Horseback
Long Instrumental: Taurus II
Short Instrumental: The Top of the Morning

NB- These aren't my votes, just an example

If anyone decides to take part in this (votes will remain anonymous), then results will be posted in this topic after 31 December 2001, US Pacific Time.

Cheers everyone,

-Tim-

Thank you everyone who has taken part so far (and that's not just the people who didn't send their votes by email).

Anyway, there's still time to vote- and I forgot to actually set a time limit when I first started the topic. So I'll do that now.

You have until 18.00 GMT, 30 December 2001 to send your votes, preferably by email. I've included all votes posted in this topic (but I've made sure that timshen's votes aren't counted twice wink), but please don't add any more to the topic. Hopefully the next message here will be the results biggrin.

So remember, votes in all four categories to timhighfield@hotmail.com.

Cheers everyone,

-Tim-

Okay folks, last call for votes...

Why do I say last call? Well, because, if I don't get more votes soon, I'll have to call the whole thing off as there won't be enough votes to compile proper results.

So, everybody (except those who have voted already, and to these people I once again say thanks), please, get your votes to timhighfield@hotmail.com, by whatever time this is on the message (look up for the time) on 23 December. If I do get some votes, then I will continue accepting them up until the original deadline set (30 December I think).

Cheers,

-Tim-

Right then.

I'll keep taking votes until 30 December, as promised- so if you haven't voted yet, do it now!

Current Status Report:

The Album and Song categories are very, very tight, with a few pieces in the running for first place.

The Long Instrumental category has a definite leader, although other pieces are still in the running.

The Short Instrumental category is wide open- any piece could win it really.

So, if you want your favourite pieces to come first in their respective category, you know what you have to do: VOTE!

Cheers,

-Tim-

Only a few hours left to vote, folks.

The Short Instrumental category is very very tight. Vote for your favourite now, as it could help it come first!

And now...

THE RESULTS

As voted by Mike Oldfield fans in December 2001.

Album: Amarok and Ommadawn (equal votes)

Song: Five Miles Out

Long Instrumental: Taurus II

Short Instrumental: The Lake

Thanks once again to all those who voted, and who knows, I might be crazy enough to try this again at the end of this year.

Cheers,

-Tim-
