I didn't realize Moby had said that about Mike, thats very interesting indeed but perhaps not surprising. Moby's track 'God moving over the face of the waters' sounds quite Mike-ish as do a few others. As for them working together, an interesting idea but it seems Mike doesn't collaborate often if at all these days, hence his use of virtual vocalists. How about a virtual Moby?   ;) Ho Ho

I know we're way off topic here but since we've got everyone's attention I would have to recommend an album called Destroy Rock and Roll by a guy called Mylo. For those here who like their ambient/eletronica its quite superb. He's a 24 year old from a village called Portree on the Isle of Skye and he made the entire album in his bedroom on a Mac ibook using samples and software he nabbed off the internet. Its become hugely popular both here and in America and Mylo is or was supporting Moby on the US leg of his current tour. I think everyone should check out the album because it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Mike's new album sounded something similar in style, no bad thing by the way if he's got the tunes to match.

I've heard of him, he's in the UK chart's right now, his sound to me is like an 8o's remix man, I'll tell you what, I love it.

He's a bit like Daft Punk but with a bit more soul.

Mylo...he did appeared on an electronica festival here last month,he was fab! His debut album is so lovely, and I'm always listening to it.

In My Arms, with a melody based on the 80's classic Bette Davis' Eyes from Kim Carnes...simply perfect.

How is a virtual hologram different from a real one?

Daynight would be especially apt for an album featuring acapella tracks with heavy instrumental accompaniment, and also accoustic electric instruments. And, to top it all off, Mike Oldfield playing punk rock.

Quicksilver is Plumbum in Latin. If Mike wants the title to be Mercury-related, what about Plum Boom? I can imagine the cover photo: Mike sitting under a plum tree, holding a mercury thermometer ;)

In doing some web wandering, I came across this item, which may or may not have some new information in it:

Aquarius Records website news

Could someone with the appropriate language skills summarize what is being said here?  Thanks for any help you can provide.

My Croatian is worse than I thought... I don't understand everything but I'm afraid there is nothing new.

It's about how happy Mercury Records are to announce that Mike Oldfield has signed a contract with them, how happy Mike is to be with Mercury Records and how technologies have developed over the years. Mike says he didn't think he would ever sign a contract with a major record label like Universal when he was a teenager and that he hopes the new album will be very successful.

"Plum Boom"... Not bad! The first track of CD2 could be called "Plum Boom Tschak", and would feature samples of the vocaloid saying "Plum... Boom Tschak! Plum... Boom Tschak!" rhythmically. Good stuff.

Yeah, this will be a cool autumn:
- Mike's new album
- Kate Bush's new one is rumoured to be released in September
- Roger Waters finally releases his long awaited opera (Christmas)
- Colin 'Black' Vearncombe's new album in autumn

This is like a tsunami of great music after an awful long period of mostly filler music. Let's get back to passionately played notes ! But please guys and girls, spread your future works a little bit over the decade.

Requirements for the title: one word, technical, basic. Here my proposals:
Oldfieldium (cover would be a periodic table with an additional element)
Copperfield (dumb combination of Copper and Oldfield)
Sulphur (well, sounds good)
Argonaut (sounds better)

Bye,

Michael

One more thing from the Aquarius Records website:

Mike's whole back catalogue from the Virgin era should be transfered to Mercury in 2008!

I wasn't sure about this but then I found it at oldfield.de.

This should be counted as major news. I hope they transfer the Warners eras as well. Warner did such a terrible job of promoting and making available all but one of Mike's albums with them: it is hard to imagine that Mercury could do anywhere near as bad.
