Quote (wiga @ Dec. 30 2011, 16:16)
Sweet Caroline woah woah woah
Good times never seemed so good
I've been inclined
To believe they never would.

What?

Well hang on a minute coz this does make sense.

What he's saying is that since meeting Sweet Caroline the good times he'd had before meeting up with her, were not as good as the good times he's having now.
AND he's been inclined to think that the good times he's had before finding Caroline were as good as they were ever going to get. Am I making sense ?

Branston - Thanks for that! Still bothers me though. :)

Ever listened to Sak Noel's - Loca People song. I like the tune but get these lyrics -

When I came to Spain and I saw people partying
I thought to myself: What the f*ck!?
All day, all night
All day, all night
Viva la fiesta, viva la noche
Viva los DJ's
I couldn't believe what I was living
So I called my friend Johnny
And I said to him: Johnny,
La gente esta muy loca!
What the f*ck!?

:O  :/

Oddly enough, that's the only bit that bothers me.

I hate it when people rhyme a word with itself, man!
It seems so lazy and it gets on my nerves, man!

I didn't know bird had been the word. I remember grease being the word - "And grease is the way we are feeling."

What, you're feeling greasy?

No-one's mentioned Jon Anderson's stuff with Yes, yet. Strange. I have experiences with it like the one I had with Topographic Oceans one night. There was Jon Anderson singing:

"So the flower of creativity wove its web
Face to face with the shallow"

and it made perfect sense, and I was thinking `Yeah, Jon, sing it like it is.'  And the next time I played that album I was thinking `What the buggery is he on about?' You need to be in a different place for something like that.

Well if it was a choice between "Bird bird birdbirds" OR "Grease" being THE WORD - then it would have to be "Grease", because that's what I've been brought up to believe and FEEL. :D

I always gave him the benefit of the doubt and thought he was trying to sing "In this crazy world in which we're living," but I agree it isn't clear.

Take That - or anything by Robbie Williams really -

"The Flood"

although no-one understood
we were holding back the flood
learning how to dance the rain
there was more of them than us
now they'll never dance again
altthough no-one understood
there was more of them than us
learning how to dance the rain
we were holding back the flood
they said we'd never dance again

I'm guessing some of tghese lyrics are meant to be about the re-union but the rest?

Still Robbie and/or his co-writer were responsible for

"Strong"

My breath smells of a thousand fags
And when I'm drunk I dance like me Dad
I've started to dress a bit like him

Early morning when I wake up
I look like Kiss but without the make up
And that's a good line to take it to
The bridge

Which is nearly up to Ian Dury standards

@ Andy: all of "The Flood" (and all of "Eight Letters" in the same album) is about the band. "Holding back the flood", according to what Robbie and Gary (the actual writers) said in a "track-by-track commentary" interview, means having to face all the negative criticism they got when they decided to resume their career as a fourpiece after Robbie left, and of course there were far more people who said that Take That would never reach their former glories again (which proved to be not true) than band members. :) So, to me, the chorus of "The Flood" makes perfect sense, as do lots of other TT lyrics - youthful, naïve, yes, but not at all meaningless. The only line I find a bit enigmatic is "learning how to dance the rain". Maybe they wanted to emulate Native Americans? :D

@ wiga - thanks a lot for that, you reminded me of a nice song Macca did for The Beatles, i.e. the so-called White Album. (He didn't do it with the Beatles - he played everything on his own!! :D) which has a good driving beat and good vocals, but somewhat laconic (though perfectly sensible) lyrics:

Why don't we do it in the road?
Why don't we do it in the road?
Why don't we do it in the road?
Why don't we do it in the road?
No-one will be watching us,
why don't we do it in the road?

 :D

Ugo :O young man!!

I refer you now to Mr Michael Bolton (yes, Michael Bolton) -

Said I loved you but I lied
'Cause this is more than love I feel inside
Said I loved you but I was wrong
'Cause love could never ever feel so strong
Said I loved you but I lied

Right Michael, which is it? Were you merely mistaken about your confused emotional inner landscape, or did you actively lie about it? That would make a large difference.  :(

I take the lyrics you quoted as meaning that he was absolutely sure about what he felt, so he lied deliberately to force the other person to believe him. :) Another guy who seems a little bit confused about the same matter is Raul Malo (a Cuban born in Miami... ever heard of him?):

I said I love you, I didn't mean to,
but the moonlight just gave me away.
Now that I've said it, try to forget it,
and pretend it was all a mistake;
I'll keep trying, though I'm denying
this feeling that I know is true,
stumblin' & fallin' and still after all I keep fallin' in love with you.

OK, Raul, I have just one thing to ask you. If you knew right from the outset that saying "I love you" would get you into all sorts of trouble, why the heck did you say it??? :D

Talking about nonsensical poetical lyrics, I think Van Dyke Parks is one of the kings of the genre, especially in the stuff he wrote with Brian Wilson. If you wish I shall give you a sample of his words of wisdom.

Well I'm real sorry but these lyrics once again make perfect sense.

What he's saying is that....he told her he loved her, but that was a lie because what he really felt was a lot more than just love. He said he loved her and then felt it wrong cause what he felt was much stronger than love. The he re-iterates this by repeating the fact it was a lie.......Perfect sense to me.

Why dont we do it in the road ? :D  :p

But Branston what can feel stronger than love? Either he feels a bit embarrassd to admit it's love or else he doesn't rate love much at all. Maybe to him it's just a second hand emotion - or a second hand in motion.

I think he's in denial. He should have thought it through a bit better before confusing the poor woman. She can't know what the hell's going on - and is probably actually quite alarmed!      :O  :(

@ wiga: there may be a lot of feelings which are stronger than love - burning passion, for example, or absolute devotion towards a person. Probably she heard him say "I love you" and she thought he was saying that just to please her. So now he's telling her that not only he actually loves her , but what he feels for her is even stronger than just love - he's completely infatuated of her. At least this is how I saw it. Of course Bolton wasn't entirely responsible for writing the song, maybe we should ask an explanation to his co-writer, who is none other than R. J. "Mutt" Lange.

So is that emotional storm he's feeling generated by love or something else?
