What, you're feeling greasy? No-one's mentioned Jon Anderson's stuff with Yes, yet. Strange. I have experiences with it like the one I had with Topographic Oceans one night. There was Jon Anderson singing: "So the flower of creativity wove its web Face to face with the shallow" and it made perfect sense, and I was thinking `Yeah, Jon, sing it like it is.'  And the next time I played that album I was thinking `What the buggery is he on about?' "Holding back the flood", according to what Robbie and Gary (the actual writers) said in a "track-by-track commentary" interview, means having to face all the negative criticism they got when they decided to resume their career as a fourpiece after Robbie left, and of course there were far more people who said that Take That would never reach their former glories again (which proved to be not true) than band members. So, to me, the chorus of "The Flood" makes perfect sense, as do lots of other TT lyrics - youthful, naïve, yes, but not at all meaningless. The only line I find a bit enigmatic is "learning how to dance the rain". Maybe they wanted to emulate Native Americans? -------------- Ugo C. - a devoted Amarokian Back to top

(He didn't do it with the Beatles - he played everything on his own!! ) which has a good driving beat and good vocals, but somewhat laconic (though perfectly sensible) lyrics: Why don't we do it in the road? What he's saying is that....he told her he loved her, but that was a lie because what he really felt was a lot more than just love. He said he loved her and then felt it wrong cause what he felt was much stronger than love. The he re-iterates this by repeating the fact it was a lie.......Perfect sense to me. But Branston what can feel stronger than love? Either he feels a bit embarrassd to admit it's love or else he doesn't rate love much at all. Maybe to him it's just a second hand emotion - or a second hand in motion. I think he's in denial. He should have thought it through a bit better before confusing the poor woman. Probably she heard him say "I love you" and she thought he was saying that just to please her. So now he's telling her that not only he actually loves her , but what he feels for her is even stronger than just love - he's completely infatuated of her. At least this is how I saw it. Of course Bolton wasn't entirely responsible for writing the song, maybe we should ask an explanation to his co-writer, who is none other than R. J.
