Good explanation, GMOVJ. Mark must have been suffering from that state for a long time: Listen to what happens in 'Telegraph Road' on 'Live Alchemy'! wink -Carsten-

Hi Carsten !
Hoops, let's give back to Ceasar : this is not my explanation wink This is Guy Flecther's one... I only look at Mark Web Site, in Tour diary www.mark-knopfler.com
Now, you're right about TR in Alchemy wink
Like I said, he is human afterall.

I have listened to Lyon concert, and MK's playing is more sharp than it was in Nimes. I think his injury comes and goes...

Tim, I think you can find some live audience recording of this tour somewhere on the web...

Cheers

Nah, it's alright...just flicked through Guy Fletcher's Tour Diary...under the Nimes entry he wrote:

Quote

I’ve had a lot of questions about the impending LIVE RECORDING. I can now announce that we will be recording 2 shows in Spain, Madrid and Bilbao on Monday and Tuesday. The aim is to release a video/DVD which should be out before Christmas. I’d like it to include some of the footage I’ve shot in the diary (I’ve shot video too), we’ll see.

This makes up for not being able to see a concert...hopefully there'll be a future tour which comes to Australia though cool

All Right Tim, DVD/Video will be released, but a friend of mine told me they won't use Madrid, and they don't know if they would be able to use Bilbao... I hope they can't ! wink 'cos if they can't, they may come back to Nimes to record another session, like in 92 with "On Every Night" wink just joking wink...

Mike keeps telling people in interviews that he does'nt listen to other peoples music,so how can he take any of Mark's influence?,but then again i have read he likes Oasis,so,he must listen to other music, even if it's just the radio, and i honestly believe Mike knows about Mark Knopfler.
Now,they do have obvious things in common, firstly Mike is half Irish, and Mark is Scottish,so,this is why both of them have said they love writing and performing Celtic music, and both have said they find it very easy,it's comes naturaly to them. Also, they both use there fingers to play guitar, and they both occasionaly use a plectrum too,so,when they both play a clean electric guitar,it sounds very similar. But also they have big differences to,Mark,is very much a Country/Blues player, although,he has also played just as many different musical styles as Mike, including Classical, and touches of Jazz, and although Mark does compose instrumental music,he leaves that for his very good soundtrack/film work,so,on not one DS or solo album will you here an instrumental track, probably because of another difference between the two,and that is Mark's undoubed ability at lyrics, which as i'm sure everyone will agree, including MO,Mark Knopfler is one of the greatest lyric writers in the world, and Mike is not!!!.But he does try bless him. smile
But at the end of the day, they are both great guitarists, and great writers of music/melody,and should be respected both eqally.
I would love to here them play/record together, but i just can't see it ever happening frown.
but it is great all of you here seem to like Mark Knopfler.
as you can tell i am a very big fan of both smile

Hello everyone.

Two things to mention here:
Quote

qjamesfloyd said: Mike keeps telling people in interviews that he does'nt listen to other peoples music,so how can he take any of Mark's influence?,but then again i have read he likes Oasis,so,he must listen to other music, even if it's just the radio, and i honestly believe Mike knows about Mark Knopfler.

Mike does. He mentions (wait for it) Private Investigations in an interview I found somewhere else on the web...um...here:
http://www.promoweb.dk/articles/interview3.html

But to save you the trouble of reading through the whole thing, here's the key passage:

Quote
Interviewer:
Do you believe that musicians such as yourself are having to sell out to the Great God Commercialism?
Mike:
It's sad that record companies are so geared to commercialism. I think that that keeps the standard of music down, and as a result, total record sales fall. Something that really impressed me recently was Mark Knopfler and his Private Investigations single. Now if I'd tried to persuade Virgin to put that out I'd have been met with total silence. He gives the record buying public more taste than the record companies do. If something is good, they'll buy it. Records don't have to be 120 beats per minute or whatever it is. Record companies should be more adventurous. Everything now is geared towards image and what you project, not towards the music.

Second thing: according to www.mark-knopfler.com , recording for MK's next solo album should start later this month. According to the site, those involved are looking at releasing the album in autumn (Northern Hemisphere, probably) this year, with a tour next year. To go with MK's UK concerts later this year.

Cheers,

-Tim-

H,thank you TimHighfield,i stand corrected, naturaly i have'nt heard every interview Mike has ever given, and i am very happy to here that Mike does indeed listen to a lot more of other peoples music than he let's on,but i get the feeling that it's things he here's on the radio, and it's good that he can say some kind things about Mr Knopfler,Mike knows talent when he here's it smile
And yes i am a regular viewer to Mark's official web site, and i am really looking forward to the new album, which is going to be made very quickly for MK,he normaly likes to take a few years, good on you Mark, the really good thing though is going to be the studio diary which Guy Fletcher is going to be keeping,it will be a very unique chance to here about how the progress of a new album is going to take place.
