Actually, if Universal were so inclined, the "Hergest Ridge" reissue could comfortably include the regular edit of "Don Alfonso", the extended edit, the German version and the first version of "In Dulci Jubilo".  Granted, it's not much, but at least it's something.  They could even include the "Spanish Tune" edit of HR (redundant though it may be), and maybe "Speak (Tho' You Only Say Farewell)" to sweeten the pot a little further.  It also wouldn't be a bad idea to shlup "Froggy" in there, too, seeing as they didn't see fit to include it in TB2009.  Even both mixes of "Froggy".

Not a particularly groundbreaking idea, but there you go.

@ Nacho: the version of "M.O.'s Single" I have on the Singles & Rarities FLAC compilation is 4'36''. How do you know that the mix on the promo is actually 3'56''? Have you actually got the promo? If so, lucky you!!

Thanks for that Tati!

It sounds a lot brighter and more low frequencies. Mike Oldfield's single also sounds bright (good thing! ) and I didn't expect they would feature the Viv Stanshall commentary! But nice anyway.

I still miss Froggy though.

OK I've just received the Ultimate Edition. First off the the package is superb. Gatefold sleeve LP, high quality hardback book, a lovely tranparent envelope with the concet ticket, Manor music recording tracks facimile and the Manor brochure.

The downside: MO Single is indeed only 3'56", and the 1973 rough mix difference is quite subtle.

The quality of the audio I've heard is superb, though. The set does indeed contain the poster. The Viv Stanshall hornpipe is is different and edited at the end too .. The Whistle Test video is stated to appear on the DVD disc, but as yet, I can't see it.

See the set in all it's glory below:

Bear in mind, this is a hot-off-the-presses initial impression.  :)

The DVD visuals are of a Tubular Bell swirling around the screen to a subtly changing skyscape. The 5.1 mix is thankfully much less gimmicky / panning mad than the 2003 version. The 2009 mix has brought out features of the original mix not heard before. The piano, bells and percussion especially.

BTW the gatefold sleeve of the LP acts as the enclosure for all the discs and memorabilia - except the book and poster.

You're welcome guys  :D
I'm listening to the Nov. 1972 Rough Mix at the moment, and I'll report on it here.

In short: The package itself is wonderful, the book superb. The audio quality ditto.

OK the rough mix. The first 10 minutes or so is very close to the original mix. It starts suddenly with the master tape sounding like it has been taken off pause, and the sound speeding up all of a sudden.  :)

The main differences are the nasal chorus being longer as it was with the 'Boxed' release - the 2009 mix is the same, and some rough cut-ins of various instruments during the finale.

Viv Stanshall is there, and the girlie chorus is missing at the end, as the tape stops suddenly like a reverse of the effect at the start.

The quality is way better than the demos, which are here also on CD for the first time. They have not had - quite rightly  - any remastering done on them.
