I was playing the desert white game in Maestro, and shooting at the Jets, when suddenly I was transported back to the main stair where the light had changed from red to blue, and I was unable to re-enter Desert White.

Any suggestions as to why this happened?

Looks like you found the emergency exit - it's easy to trigger by accident when you're hunting the planes, especially when firing. Just stay away from the tube next time...
