Thanks sooooo much for sharing, yanouch! I loved it. Steven's rewview was so thinking and articulate. I am in love with him! <-: But seriously, so many reviewers write from the perspective that we've all just landed on earth recently and wouldn't have ever heard the origin story of TB. I liked the approach that Steve took with it....everything from the differences between PF and how they'd built a fan base before the release of DSOTM vs. TB composed by a "recluse in meltdown" who refused to tour or promote it TO his preference for Hergest Ridge (maybe we should invite him for a future hike (-; ). He is also right about it standing alone, no matter how many times it is mixed or remixed, and I agree with him on the 2003 version vs. the original.
I was surfing around over the weekend and found this review of a 2005 PT CD, which includes the following:
"Porcupine Tree started life as another Spinal Trap, a fictitious group invented by Steven Wilson of the group No-Man, a multi-instrumentalist geek who is pretty much a Generation X reincarnation of Mike Oldfield. Wilson and a friend invented a spurious band history, while Wilson recorded pastiche tracks in the same spirit as XTC's Psonic Psunspot spoof of psychedelic music. But one of the Porcupine Tree tracks, "Radioactive Toy," became a playlist favorite of a London DJ, and the demand for Porcupine Tree grew."
-------------- "No such thing as destiny; only choices exist." From: Moongarden's "Solaris."
