Don't you have kids ??

No, I hate kids.  :D  (connection with the music? don't know, that's for a psychologist, or for Alex ;) )

In the posts above it allready seemed that I'm overreacting. My apologies for that.

On another topic I read you dislike sports. Hmm... me too. That makes: speaking dutch, liking MO, hating children, disliking sports, disliking Dutch beer,... This is getting freaky!
However, the Dutch beer isn't much of a coïncidence, nobody likes Dutch beer. :D

Hey !

This is not children's music, but it is folk music, i think.
It is not identical like jig or reel, but it is a kind of folk...

As part of my job, i do lots of work with children 4 years and under. We use Childrens Music to stimulate their minds and help them to be more creative. Just like Mikes music does for us fans. So if anyone describes his music as Childrens Music just smile and think of the positive effect it has on others!!!   :)

It depends on how you'd define "Childen's music   :/ . On Horseback I don't think was written with kids in mind, as listeners.
I didn't really fully appreciate Mike's music as a kid.

Last week I was dancing with a friend's daughters (aged 5 and 7), to In Dulci Jubilo and Portsmouth       :) , I remember hearing and liking them as a kid, but I don't think Mike intended them to be kids songs  :) .  Does it really matter?

The same sort of discussion goes on with regard to literature, where the real distinction to be drawn is not between 'adult' and 'children's' literature, but just between good and bad writing.

So - you don't have to be a child to enjoy Alice in Wonderland or The Wind in the Willows; but perhaps you do to enjoy a Famous Five Enid Blyton adventure, or something like that. The first two are just fine books that happen to appeal both to adults and children - so they tend to be spoken of (wrongly) as children's books. But I suspect that The Famous Five books aren't enjoyed much by most adults, and truly are 'children's books'.

On Horseback is a very clever ending for Ommadawn; and while a child might enjoy the song on its own, the significance of it in the context of the whole album would be quite beyond a child I think.

The same thing applies to movies like Shrek and the like, yes they do have an enormous appeal to kids but I still loved them. Different aspects of the book / movie / music appeals to different age groups.

"Finding Nemo", is supposed to be a kids film, but I must admit I have cried sometimes whilst watching it, I find myself rooting for Nemo, Marlin and Dory.  I think the subject matter also appeals to adults.  I could watch Finding Nemo, over and over again.

The crossover between music, films, literature etc meant for kids and that meant for adults  can sometimes be so blurred :).
