Hi

I recently heard a version of TB2 where Billy Connolly is the master of ceremonies.  It's quite funny esp when he says 'and tubular bells too/2'.

Are they friends?
Does anyone know who else recorded versions with mike before he picked Mr Rickman?  [that goes for TB1 and TB2003 too please]

I like all the variation in the MC's. From memory...

For TB1, I believe it was only ever Viv Stanshall.

Mike did some kind of demo on Radio 1 in the late 80's where he introduced the instruments himself, and they were some pretty bizarre introductions!

Album version of TB2: Alan Rickman
Live version: John Gordon Sinclair
Single Versions: Vivian Stanshall (on XXV compilation as well)
  Billy Connolly
Otto {something} - both English and German versions
{some Spanish person} - only in Spanish IIRC
  Instrumental version
"Live" on BBC TV - Harry Enfield (for the "Bofty's" ceremony - can't remember details).

No idea who MC'ed the TB2 tour.

I remember before TB2003 was released Mike did a webchat and me and someone else had asked who he wanted to MC, and he'd mentioned John Cleese right from the start. So I guess he would have been the only one he asked/recorded!!

I seem to remember the tubular bells recording for the late 80,s was on the Nicky Campbell show, and the master of ceremonies was John Peel.I think this was done to help promote Earth Moving ,as tracks from this album featured also.

Just my 2p - that 'Otto {something}' is German comedian Otto Waalkes, probably 'the' comedian in Germany in the 70s and 80s (and still alive and joking...).

I think  I read somewhere (probably these boards) that Mike met Billy Connolly when he was living in LA. They may well have met before that though as Billy was quite a major player in the seventies UK folk music scene, he's a great friend of both Bert Jansch and John Renbourn, two of Mike's biggest influences (long before Cafe Del Mar was on the scene ha ha)

One of the webchats(from 2002) you can find on the Articles area. The other one happened in 2K3...
