I think there exist no better synth-oriented album in 90s.

"Songs of distant earth" is even better than JM Jarre's "chronology" and "oxygene 7-13" which I consider as absolutely great albums.

The arrangements, the rhythmic parts, mixed with all those voices and some guitar here and there...

It's so perfect. I wish I could record such an album myself. I'm working on it... But I guess I'll never do something as good as SODE. It's a shame :( lol

Very hard to find a better synth orientated album ever IMO!

This will make for an interesting discussion, I will research and get back to you  ;)

In fact, these three are my three favourite synth albums from the 90s. ;)

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one I'm afraid. I think TSODE, Chronologie and Oxygene 7-13 are great albums (although I wouldn't necessary classify TSODE as a synth album per se), but I think the following are better albums and far more representative of the synth / electronic genre:

Ian Boddy - The Uncertainty Principle

Ian Boddy - The Deep

John Dyson - Aquarelle

John Dyson - Different Values

Peter Mergener - Take Off

Peter Mergener - Let There Be More Light (Creatures 2)

Bekki Williams - Shadow of the Wind

Andy Pickford - Terraformer

Andy Pickford - Replicant

.....to name but a few. I have them all and more, and believe me - they are fantastic albums. Plus. they are all from the 90s!

TSODE is my favourite synth album, Mike Oldfield album, instrumental album, based-on-a-book album, and all around music soundtrack out of anything I've ever heard. It's the best music in the world...my world anyway lol. With Only Time Will Tell being the best song ever created ever...anywhere anytime.....ever.

....

*grabs TSODE CD*

I love TSODE, but strangely enough my favourite moments on it, such as Let there be Light, Crystal Clear and Ascension, are all to do with guitars. I don't really consider it a synth-oriented album at all.

TSODE is definitely my favourite 90s, synth based, based on a book Mike Oldfield album of all time ever. :D

Speaking as a complete ignoramus in electronic music, I can say the 90's have much, much better stuff. My ignorance is actual proof of that.

It's one of my all-time favourite albums of any kind; so in this case whether it uses synths or not doesn't really matter to me.

But most of the arrangements are made on synths. The fact that there are guitars is icing on the cake. A very good icing on a very good cake.  :p

I wouldn't really call it a Synth album either. Strange that I really do not rate L+S and I'd consider that a synth album. I allways thought TSODE was a Mike Oldfield album. A very good one.

Ian Boddy, John Dyson, Bekki Williams and Andy Pickford are all from the UK - I have provided links to the albums wherever possible. I have them all and more - just let me know if you want to hear a sample and I'll send one through to you.

But you could say the same of Rick Wakeman's 'The Six Wives of Henry VIII' yet that is essentially a Progressive Rock album and not a synth album.

Proof maybe for you. Thankfully, your opinion doesn't equate to actual fact. At least not with me. :D

And you'll see by the tone of my "voice" there, I was as well.

Hmmm maybe I'll add a smiley to avoid future misrepresentation :).

OK I change the "synth album" into "instrumental album with a (more than) slight electronic flavour"  :D
