Has anyone out there got any information on Barefoot, i.e. the lineup, the music etc? I'm currently researching the origins of bands and artists, and so it would be interesting to see where Mike Oldfield went between Sallyangie and Kevin Ayers.

If I remember correctly, that band was called Barefeet. But apart from that, I'm afraid I don't know anything about them.

The band included Mike's brother Terry and a member of the popular Long John Baldry. After 6 months Mike broke up the band and joined Kevin Ayres.

I got Barefoot from the web version of the Elements booklet on this site. I had a feeling it was Barefeet though.

I've seen it written as both in different places...I don't remember which one is correct now...I read somewhere that the name referred to the way Mike never used to wear shoes when he performed (with Sallyangie at least), but that sounds like just the sort of thing that could be a huge load of rubbish...I guess you can decide yourself smile

I believe the music was in a rock style, but I know very little apart from that...

I've read some MO biographies and this group never had an album. Sorry.
(But if you find one please tell me!)

Yeah, I didn't think they had an album (zinc said they were together for six months or so). I'm just interested in who was actually in the group.

Here's an interesting quote by Terry Oldfield. (from terryoldfield.com)

"Mike and I formed a band in 1970 called Barefoot. We played in clubs and
universities around Britain for about a year. The music was a kind of heavy
blues style and I played bass guitar at the time. Since then I have played the
flute at the first Tubular Bells concert at Queen Elizabeth Hall and one or two
sessions on 'Ommadawn' and 'Incantations' playing flute and pan-pipes. Mike
and I rarely see each other these days but we get along well when we do and
play squash and have a Guiness together occasionally. I hope that I have not
been too influenced by anyone in the past. To be honest I have never been a
great music listener and can't remember having any particular favourites."

So, it looks like the band were called "barefoot". And they played "heavy blues style". And it also says that they were "around Britain for about a YEAR". Also it looks like they both enjoy(ed) GUINNESS! Yeah! Ok, hope that helped.

And yeah, i just got a copy of sallyangie (children of the sun) album. It's great. I mean, you don't usually hear that sort of stuff from two 14 year old kiddos. I would like (well actually not) to see Britney Spears and all the alikes doing an acoustic folk album. I guess that's not going to happen. biggrin

So it would be superb to hear some barefoot stuff too.
