I figured this would be the best place for an item about those avatars. Some of them I've wondered about:

- Why is Sir Mustapha in a cow suit?

- Alan D's is too dark to make out anything. What is it?

- is Raven4x4x's spy avatar inspired by "Mastermind" ?

At this time, mine is of an actual Native American (Dakota) leader who held sway in the area referred to in the "Song of Hiawatha' in my SIG.

Actually, my avatar is the icon from the msagent program that I found in my Windows folder. I don't know what the program does (I'm not game enough to try) but I loved the icon. I just put a little border around it.

Perception is an interesting thing. I'd no idea that mine was hard to decipher.

There's a passage in Tr3s Lunas (one of the most beautiful), where you are carried through space to Earth by a burning rose, to the accompaniment of stunningly beautiful music. My avatar is the burning rose, but you can see the rest of the picture that it's taken from here.

Another picture of the flight with the rose can be seen here.

Oh, well, my avatar is actually Fernando Toro, from a children's show. I kept him mostly because of the name, but also because he's a really, really nifty character.

Since I'm too lazy to look for an avatar on the Net, I just picked the one I liked best from the list here on this board, and it just happened to be the one I have now. :) But, it some way, it also represents the way I am. ;)

To Vinz, have you been fortunate enough to go to the top of mount teide, I did in 1992, it was really great,  saw an eagle in flight, really great.

Mine is me with longer hairdo, and the way the avatar is dressed up is quite similar to real life :)

Well, I used to have Bootleg from the back cover of the Hergest Ridge LP as my avatar, but forgeting that avatar images aren't uploaded to the tub.net servers I made the mistake of deleting it from my webspace. For some reason that I don't know of I also deleted it from my hard drive. D'oh!

So now I am aspiring to the likes of Korgscrew and Olivier by having no avatar. Perhaps one day I might be bothered to scan the Hergest Ridge LP again, but I did think it was a bit difficult to get right in a small graphic area

I wondered if Tati created her avatar herself or it was found elsewhere on the net. Some good graphics work there :)

To The Big BellEnd :
No, I haven't unfortunately, not yet, but I wish to...
Since I'm french, I'm not so far of Mount Teidi and Tenerife.
So why not ? It will be like a pilgrimage :p

Er ... I never thought of this before: I use a photograph of myself. Is that considered wrong? I'm kind of new to the forum world, and a slow adapter to new rules. Please tell me if I'm doing the wrong thing, and I will replace that rather silly party-mood picture with something more appropriate.

There isn't a 'wrong thing', is there? I expect most people just chose something they felt comfortable with - something that they felt vaguely reflected some part of their character, or taste? That's what I did, anyway.

Using your own picture as your avatar is only "wrong" if you feel uncomfortable with it. Otherwise, it's all perfect. It's just very common to see someone using some other kind of picture as his avatar because he identifies with it, somehow (and yes, I do identify myself with good ole Ferny). It's a matter of style.

At least you can say you're being unique in choosing your own pic as an avatar. I've never really noticed a lack of avatars like that

I don't know if it's clear enough for everyone to see, but I'm back to Lisa. :) Even though it looks like she's sad, she's actually reading. There's another fairly disturbing detail about the picture that I'd better not talk about here.

No, it isn't clear at all. It looks to me like something that's on fire. I can't make out anything that's more than vaguely person-like I'm afraid.

Oww, groan. Why do the pics I really like don't look any good in 4096 bloody square pixels? If too many questions appear, I'll just have to switch to Bob the Builder eventually.

I can't use the word 'avatar' because to me that means something else entirely, but my picture is of a hippie playing an organ.

:)
