Platinumpty Group: Members Posts: 178 Joined: May 2011 Posted: July 24 2013, 08:55 What a great read.  Although I'm surprised when Mike says the fast acoustic guitar riffs on Amarok have no time signature.  I've always counted it in my head as the following: 2 bars of 10/8 1 bar of 9/8 1 bar of 16/8 then repeat! Could easily have done the chat show circuit speaking like that, self depricating, humorous & throwing in a bit of name dropping, which always goes down well. Back to top

It's always exciting for me to read anything Mike's talking about the Amarok, especially from the technical point of view, because there was always lack of informations about it. He also has much interest in making 5.1 of the album from some time, so i'am very curious if this interest will reflect somehow, especially on guitar sounds on the newest record. And finally maybe his next work will be another hand-made instrumental work. Back to top

All but one of the tracks are miserable but POWERFUL !!!! 2.) rather aptly he's reproducing the end of Ommadawn part one guitar sound !!! .. maybe even better ... if that's possible with his new Avid effects box! qjamesfloyd Group: Members Posts: 1357 Joined: April 2001 Posted: July 25 2013, 01:48 What a really great interview, that is the best interview with Mike in many years, the person was clearly a fan asking some really good questions, and finaly the Oldfield/Gilmour jam rumour is put to bed That must have sounded amazing, but I didn't realise Gilmour helped out on Heaven's Open. And Mike jammed with Jeff Lynne and Stewart Copeland   It does sound like Mike is excited about Amarok in 5.1 though, maybe this time it will get the promotion and credit it deserves. Back to top

I have sampled loops of random movie dialogue and street noise and found that if you really want to, there are time signatures to find there too!   This was an awesome interview. christopher Group: Members Posts: 270 Joined: Nov. 1999 Posted: July 25 2013, 03:02 Probably the best interview of Mike I've ever read!!   I'm incredibly pleased there was not one mention of Tubular Bells.  Over the years I want to hit interviewers for automatically jumping on that one album and forgetting all the others.  Why did you write it and so forth... as if he hasn't told us a billion times.   I keep looking for samples of the forthcoming re-issues everyday.  This month can't go by fast enough  September brings so many great releases... Mike, Elton, Doctor Who dvd's, Murray Gold, and so on.   The only real disappointment is that there is nothing extra from Amarok to be released.  Maybe he will then remix sections for our listening pleasure, like he did with Incantations. Alternately, you could write 10/8 as 20/16. But the riff is actually a 16th note shorter than that. So if you're counting the riff in 10/8, I will guarantee that you're cutting the 10th beat of the measure short to land on beat 1 of the next bar. Back to top
