What album title do you prefer for this new Oldfield release which is just about upon us? The pre-release title of "Quicksilver", which is what we knew the album as for a few weeks, or the actual title "Light and Shade"?

If you hate both titles, still choose the one you hate least. There are only two choices here.

I think Quicksilver sounds much more enticing.  Light And Shade is a little on the everyday side to my mind.  It's not a bad title, but I think Quicksilver is a good title.

No offense to familyjules, but I thought Quicksilver sounded a little 80's and a bit cheesy. I like Light and Shade, it is quite neutral and a good title for a double album, I am looking forward to hearing the light and dark side, 'OB1'.

I already have an old CD named "Quicksilver". It features Tony Banks, Fish, and Roger Daltrey. I think it is from the 1980s...

While "Light and Shade" is not the best title I've ever heard, the concept of having one CD for "Light" and one for "Shade" is one of the things I like most about it.

Naming an album after one of the tracks is just not all that exciting to me - too many albums do this.

Funny. I thought it sounded very 90s. Honest.

Neither title grabs me really. I suppose I marginally prefer Light and Shade.

Really, I wish he'd called it Tubular Bells 4.

A good title for a forthcoming album would be Incantations II.

I found the album art for "Tubular 4 Ducks". This one features "Guitars Sounding like Mallards", and all the instruments introduced toward the end of Part 1 by Donald Duck.

(Ducks)

Or why not just call the album Ducks and have a picture of Mallards on the cover.  No , actually this has given me an idea, find a picture of Mallard the fastest steam locomotive in the world, with pictures of schoolboys in shorts, equipped with notepads and locoshed books and call it Anoraks  . Or does Anoraks sound too like much like Amarok?   Not that I'm going to take the mickey out of railway enthusiasts, as I seem to be surrounded by them.

Seriously  I think Quicksilver makes me think of the late 1960's or early '70's, which to me is great .  I like the concept of Light and Shade too, i feel that Ying and Yang would be an exciting title     ;) .  As for the best title I don't think I can say until I've heard the album.

Light and Shade is perfect to explain the concept of the album.

Great job,Mike!

I really can't decide either way, not until I've heard the album anyway. The title Quicksilver never made me go 'yuck' like it did so some others here. I don't have strong feeling about either of them, but Light and Shade does seem to sum up Mike's idea with the contrasting moods between the two disks.

Which, incidentally, has already been done. Thought admittedly not with schoolboys and anoraks.

I like 'Light And Shade': it  has a deep feeling, a kind of contrast... light and shade, good and evil, Skywalker and Vader... ;)

Maybe Quicksilver is a good title too, but it sounds more like a courier service... :p
