Consider this: Do album names somewhat intice you? Do you think the name could possibly "make" an album? Have you ever judged an album, based on its name? (even if you had no clue what it sounded like).

Would you still be interested if the following albums were named slightly different...

Cylinder Bells
Hergest Cliff
The Symphonic Cylinder Bells
Ommadusk
Squared (Boxed)
Thought Provoking (Incantations)
Backstage (Exposed)
Titanium (Platinum)
QE666
Five Miles Up
I Got Problems (Crisis)
The Murdering Fields
I Found it! (Discovery)
Mike Oldfield In A Box (the complete mike oldfield)
Penninsulas
Earthquake
CrazyFantasicoWonderland(Amarok)
Heaven's Closed
Cylinder Bells II
Seasons (Elements)
The Songs of Distant Mars
Sailor
XXV- You Need Mike Oldfield (the essential Mike oldfield)
Cylinder Bells III
Banjos (Guitars)
The Centurian Bell

The Centurian Bell is at least a little more original than The Millennium Bell (or at least different considering the over-usage of the m-word at the time).

If we assume Mike has the naming qualities of Leonard da Quirm, then what happened to:

Long Thin Metallic Tube sounds-like-a-Bell-like Thingys 01?
Long Thin Metallic Tube sounds-like-a-Bell-like Thingys 10?
Long Thin Metallic Tube sounds-like-a-Bell-like Thingys 11?
Orchestral Long Thin Metallic Tube Bell-like Thingys?
Long Thin Metallic Tube sounds-like-a-Bell-like Thingy for signifying a 1000-year period of time?
I am the fool and I'm laughing?
Bits of land surrounded by the sea?
A hill in Herefordshire where you can fly gliders?
A selection of Irish-sounding songs with me on the cover without a shirt near Ibiza prepating for a mystical voyage of some sort?
Lots of slightly sampled guitars?
A heavy metal that doesn't really do a lot of reacting?
A very large ship named after some old dear who happens to be Sovereign?
et cetera et cetera

Well, here are some stupid titles that REALLY WERE considered for the original albums:

Breakfast In Bed (for Tubular Bells)
Tubular Bells II (for Hergest Ridge)
Pickles On My Glockienspiel (for Ommadawn)
Ommadawn 2 (for Amarok)

Some more silly names:

Curvy Bits Of Metal (TB)
Sailor's Revenge: The Pornhipe Is Back (Blue Peter)
Potassium (Platinum)
Incan Yellow (TB2-Mayan Gold)
Scout (TB2-Sentinel)
Amastone (Amarok)

I like the sound of The Centurion Bell - but isn't centurion a rank in the Roman army?

I think the easiest thing is to simply substitute the name "Bob" here and there.

Tubular Bob
Bob Ridge
Ommabob
Incanbobtions
Songs of Distant Bob
Platinum Bob
The Bob Fields
Bobarok
Bob, with some Guitars
The Millenium Bob

(need another pint...)

We could take this Bob thing to excess if we wanted to:

Bobbed (Boxed)
The Bobs of Distant Bob
Bobular Bob, 1, 2, 3
The Bobennibob Bob
Exbobbed (Exposed)
Bobses (Crises)
The Bobplete Bob Bobfield
BOB: The Ebobtial Bob Bobfield
Bobabob (erm ... Voyager, Amarok, Ommadawn? confused anything with 3 syllables will do here)

We could even extend to other artists:

JMJ:
Oxybob
Equibob
Bobnetic Bobs
Bobdez-bob
Bobbing for Bobteau
Bobtibobtion Boblands: the Lonbob Bobcert
Imabobs - The Bob of Bob-Mibob Bob eek

Vangelis:
El Bobbo (El Greco)
149Bob - Bobquest of Parabob
Bob Runner
Bobtraits
Bobrise 1990-1999

Kraftwerk:
Autobob
The Bob (The Mix)
Combobter World
Bob und Bob (Ralf und Florian)

This produces the classic paraphrase: "All Bobs lead to Bob"

Incidentally, the "All Bobs ..." was a paraphrase of "All roads lead to Rome"

If anyone replies to this asking "Who's Bob?", then that would just be taking the Bob!

Also, did you know that every fish is called "Bob"?

Just so everyone knows, I really like the TB sequels, I was just being "humourous". Maybe TB3 and TMB could have been called something else, but musically I like them.

How about choosing a different instrument?

The Millennium Bell
The Millennium Piano
The Millennium Timpani
The Millennium Reed and Pipe Organ
The Millennium Slightly-distorted Electric Guitar
The Millennium Digital Sound Processor

I could go on ad nauseum...

What size Bounty can you get for £1? Not sure whether the exchange rate affects the size. 40g? 75g?

Also, does it have to be a Bounty? I'm sure there's some pretty good Virgin choc...aaarrrghhh. rolleyes

What sized Bounty can you get for 1 bob?

Since the Australian Dollar doesn't so much fall as plummet, 1 GBP ==> about $2.50 Aus (from memory); I'd imagine that you could get close to 200 grams for that much wink

Unless, of course, you have to pay postage and handling on that, in which case you could buy roughly -1 (that's MINUS ONE) kg ...

What did this have to do with Mike Oldfield again?
