In FMO (song) the Airplane's code is G-MOVJ (Golf Mike Oscar Victor Juliet). But in the cover painting, it's G-APVJ. (I read this on the LP cover.) Any meaning behind this? -Carsten-

I didn't see the LP cover but I checked the database of all UK-registered aircrafts (G means Great Britain), and presently there's no aircraft registered as G-MOVJ or G-APVJ. MO might mean Mike Oldfield but what's AP?

He may have just used G-MOVJ in the song because of the M/Mike thing, which sort of relates to what Man In rain is saying. The picture was done by an aviation artist (although I forget who right now) and probably uses the registration of the plane Mike was flying at the time - it may not be registered now, but it may have been once (and will be all rusty or in bits now...).

And of course, if you look at the letters a certain way, AP can look like MO (ie, the curve in the P becomes the O and the rest of the lettering is M). This depends on how large the text is, and the angle drawn/viewed at and so on.

But I think Korgscrew and Man In Rain have it.

The painting was done by Gerald Coulson, who paints airplanes (mostly fighters from the World Wars) and I don't think there were more pictures (with other registration number) so I think Korgscrew is right, although I haven't seen the LP cover.

By the way, does somebody know if Mike is still flying airplanes?

VJ: I don't think it's important but the first thing that popped in my mind were low and high altitude airways (routes delineated by navigation radio signals). The low-altitude ones (below FL180) are named Victor Airways and the high-altitude ones are Juliet Airways (between FL180 and FL450).

When I look at the LP cover, I'm getting sure it's AF, not AP.

Guys.  Put the album cover down and listen to the music.  You might also consider getting a life.

But album covers are the perfect thing to look at while listening to the music...

According to the Lyrics to the song Five Miles Out it is Golf Mike Victor Juliet.
