So, you're stranded on a desert island... which 3 Mike Oldfield studio albums would you take with you? (Sorry, no compilations for this question!;)  Don't cheat and say you'd take them all... Try and pick three.

Now... what about if you were putting together your own "Best of" CD for your desert island.  You can pick ANY of Mike's tracks, so long as they don't run for longer than 80 minutes in total (it doesn't have to be exact)... which would you choose?

Ommadawn,Amarok,TSODE.
As for putting different tracks together-not very fond of hearing bits & peices of albums like that. But,just to have 3 albums only would be too much of a torment so,couldn't a couple of other albums maybe drift into shore at some stage.(tried to put smiley in here-for some reason wouldn't work.Think I'm the reason!)Anyway, think your rules could have included the option of taking a musical instrument.(if stranded on an island-would have plenty of time to try to play music from the albums you don't have!;))

Ommadawn, Incantations and Tubular Bells...or Hergest Ridge...no, Tubular Bells...I think.  Dammit, can't I just burn my favourites onto 3 CDs?!?!  ;)

So I can't make three compilation CD's? Damn, I would have had the perfect selections in mind.

Oh well, in that case I'd go with Hergest Ridge, Five Miles Out and Amarok.

Amarok, TSODE and Crises.

Pity about the no compilations thing; I'm just about to burn a 3-CD best of Mike Oldfield set. That would have been perfect.

Ommadawn and Hergest Ridge definitely :D .  As for the third , proving more difficult,  TSODE, I think, no Incantations, no must have Tubular Bells in there, blast , can't I pick four.

I'm going slightly mad,
It finally happened, I'm slightly mad , just very slightly mad

If you feel a little glum to Hergest Ridge you should come.

I have started another thread for all the people who wanted to make a compilation, but couldn't fit all the tracks they wanted onto a single CD... :)

My ultimate CD would include, Crises, (title track only) Top of the morning, Turtle Island, Outcast, Ommadawn part 1, Hergest ridge part 1, Portsmouth, On Horseback and Taurus III.

Of course, being a desert Island, there probably wouldn't be a CD player would there?  :p

This comes to nearly 78 minutes, yay!   :)

Three CDs:

Tubular Bells
Amarok
Heaven's Open

That pretty much rounds it up to me.

Light and Shade, The Songs of Distant Earth and Tubular Bells 2003.

That was bold, choosing an album that you haven't even heard! I salute you  :D

I haven't heard TB2003 but judging from the mixed reception that it's recieved on the forum I would say that was quite an unusual choice.

Amarok
Hergest Ridge
Crises

I've been pondering this one for the past three months since the topic started (I know, I'm a slow thinker!;) but I've finally decided. It feels a bit weird leaving out TB but Hergest Ridge would provide me with a level of peace and tranquility that TB wouldn't quite match. Maybe the desert Island would be peaceful and tranquil enough without any music however :-)

No doubt you will find all of the missing promotional material for L+S piled up on this lost desert island.
