I'm curious to know the general reaction to MOTS whether you've heard the promo or just the clips.  It's too early to give a final verdict, but just a general feeling would be nice. :) If you can't answer this yet, just leave it for now and come back to it when you can.

Hah! First vote and I see everyone agrees with me.  :p

This album is showing Mike's compositional skills to the full, and we have crescendo's and emotional warmth back again.

It was his ability to lift my heart that first drew me to his music, and it's back again.

The format, using an, orchestra is a bit awkward for my ears, but multi plays will get me over that. I loved the dance/trance period and was surprised it didn't sell more but he was up against bigger names and equally talented composers in that area. So it's going to be interesting to see how he does in this new "sphere"

I went for "love it but some earlier work better". From what I have heard so far it looks like it is going to be the best work Mike has produced in quite a while (for me at least). However, I haven't heard anything yet that has that gut-wrenching heart-tugging tingle that moments of some of his previous works have provided. This view may well change upon hearing the final release!

I voted for the first option above, as I think MotS is a masterpiece. but I may correct it into "I think it's one of Mike's best works", as IMHO there isn't a single album of Mike's that stands above all the others... except Amarok, maybe. :D Well, I think that MotS ranks right up there with Amarok. :)

"I like it, it's nice enough, just not incredible" Is what I chose.

I think its alright, But for me, It's by no means his best. In fact, I think that in the context of the orchestra, Mont St. Michel from Voyager is far better than the whole MotS album.. Controversial as it may be, That's my opinion on it.

Its a great album, fantastically composed, but I think Mike has done better..

I voted "I love it but some of his earlier work is better" as it is definitely up there with his early whole composition works but lacks the magic certain parts of TB, Ommadawn and Amarok have for me. It flows beautifully and takes me on a wonderfuly emotional journey (and that's just the low quality download - of course i'll buy the album when it's out) THANKS MIKE :-)

I think it's one of MO's best. I would rank it alongside The Songs of Distant Earth - and I consider that near perfection. MOTS is an emotionally positive experience, and as such, I have difficulty comparing it to the darker, more intense, Ommadawn; it'd be the proverbial 'apples & oranges'.

To me, Music of the Spheres is his best album since Heaven's Open.

Shouldn't this poll wait until the album has been released?

You could probably argue that the whole of this forum should wait until the album has been released, but it's open and we can post here, so... :)

Also, as I said in my post: If you can't answer this yet, just leave it for now and come back to it when you can.  I thought it would be interesting to get a general feeling for what people think of the album at this stage.  So far, the voting has been very favourable, and I think that gives a good impression of what's to come. :)

Oh dear - where is the screaming PRS, where are the nice bodhran beats.  What has happened to his ears!  This guy is capable of much more than this.....I've heard it so i'll have to buy it but.........

I do miss the PRS,but Mike's intention was to be 100% classical, not doing what lots of other prog rockers have done in the past, the rock + orchestra fusion, like Rick Wakeman did in the 70's.

I chose "I like it, it's nice enough, just not incredible".

I think it's Mike's best work since the time of TB2/TSODE but it lacks traditional instruments and of course electric guitars.

Even if I think this is the best orchestra sound Mike ever had, parts would have been far better with rock instruments, and would have been the same as Tubular Bells is in comparison of Orchestral TB...
