I don't have XXV because I have all the other albums... smile Anyway, my own favourites among the tracks included in XXV (apart from the classics: TB, HR and O) are the two tracks from Voyager, "The Voyager" & "Women of Ireland", and of course TB3.

"XXV: THE ESSENTIAL MIKE OLDFIELD" is what first tuned me in to Mikey Boy's musical prowess, although in retrospect, now that i've got nearly all his albums, there is a lot of "essential" stuff that should have been put on (ie "North Star" from "PLATINUM", and "The Trek" from "THE KILLING FIELDS") and some non-essential stuff that could have been cut out (ie "Only Time Will Tell" and "Portsmouth").

Still, back on topic, my favourite track was probably the final theme from "Ommadawn" because of the way it slowly builds up to this incredible crescendo.

Just another thing, does anyone else think he should have kept with the male vocal for "Tubular Bells III"? I thought it sounded much more eerie and sppooky than the female vocals used in the finished album.

Yeah, bennyboy, the male voice is worse than the female, I think, but remember that TB3 in XXV is a Pre-release...

My favourite tracks are Ommadawn (good the last 3 minutes) and Incantations.

I think the male singer was better and it is more atmostpheric.

However, it would be good if Amar was asked to work on another album perhaps doing some kind of Ethnic chant like in TSODE

Listening back to it, I don't think the Male vocals work quite as well...I'm not sure...the feel of the whole track is different, if subtly different in some places. Certainly interesting to listen back to though.

My favourite track on the Essential is definitely the last track, the excerpt from TBIII. The distorted sound grates on me a little bit but  I just love the way it explodes about 1min30secs into it. It is far superior than the final product and I prefer the male vocal also. I'm even prepared to say that this is my favourite MO track OF ALL. I would love to have heard the entire dance album of TBIII that Mike originally created. I can only take this sort of music in small doses though, I still prefer Mikes older style but this particular track thrills me to the core.

Given that I'd never heard the Viv Stanshall version of The Bell before, this one wins. "The Bell" has always been my favourite TB2 track, but to hear the original MC from the original TB was fantastic. I loved the finalé too:

And again, Tubular Bells!

Hi,

My favourite on the Essential is also the last track, the excerpt from TBIII.
Do you know to whom belongs the male voice ?
