Wait, are we talking about the worst song ever, here? Well, there are several. The ones that pop up in my mind right now are "Ogre Battle" by Queen - yes, even the greats do crap sometimes! :D -  and (the original version of) "What Time Is Love" by The KLF, a.k.a  The Timelords, a.k.a I don't know what. There are an awful lot more, but these are among my personal worst.

@ Michael Hilton: William Hung is not dead. That was an urban legend. Why is pure pop hated so much within this board? :/

If, on the other hand, we're talking about terrible singers, well, then Tom Waits is the undisputed king. But his songs are wonderful. :)

Absolutely worst song ever. This is why cocaine is a bad drug.

Ah, is it, eh Lars?

So now it's final:

THE MEMBERS OF THIS BOARD ARE ALL HATERS OF POP...

... except for me, of course.

:D  :D

I don't mind pop either. I disagree with you about "Ogre Battle", Ugo - as its chaotic quality seems in keeping with its subject matter.

As for worst songs, there are so many. A couple that spring to mind are Boz Scaggs' "Low Down", Marvin Gaye's "Got to Give it Up", anything by Tom Waits or Eddie Money. Bob Dylan is pretty low, too, except that sometimes other singers can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear (eg Bryan Ferry's "A Hard Rain's A Gonna Fall" (but yecchh... what an awful song title.)

I dont necessarily hate pop Ugo, only when it's poorly re-produced, here's a country & western that cracked me up-
She thinks my tractor's sexy, by Kenny Chesney.
I also stumbled on this one, A scientific experiment to create the most annoying song ever, by Komar, Melamid, & Soldier.
Rap opera??? Ooo that hurts

I like Pop too Ugo ,The K.L.F as well.

In fact the only Two styles I don't like is Country "and" Western.

Bad songs that makes a very big list.

This One for Vocoder Abuse.
Neil Young- Sample and Hold

This One just because
The Communards -Love that Voice.

This because even in the 30's this would of been crap.
Day trip to (Oh just f**k off) Bangor.

This Wham ditty for taking the p*ss out of the Japanese by changing the lyrics.
Wham- Fish Face

Ok the story behind this One.
A local Radio Station has been trying to get Frank Stallone to come out for a tour as these guys are infatuated with him.
The other day Richard Branson was on, being interviewed
and they asked if Sir Rich would foot the bill to bring him out.
One of the radio jocks told RB that he was not as good as MO but that Frank was our MO ,Quite funny.

Frank Stallone-Far from Over :D

I don't hate pop at all. But nothing can be as impotent as bad adult north american 80s pop. It's made directly for radio the way a b-movie is made directly for DVD. The songs are created for maximum financial impact. It's as if the singer is staring at directly your wallet while overdubbing that two-note "hook" for the 187th time.
You built your city on rock'n'roll? Then can you f-ing play some? :(

But what's up with KLF? That track is the only thing that got me up on the dancefloor in 1989. :-)

I thought that was Whitney Houston. It's a crap song for sure!
A hot candidate also is Kool and Gang's "Celebration time come on" or whatever the f-ck it's called. Both are kind of songs that just go on and on without being either hypnotic or anthemic. Philip Glass makes action music in comparision.

@ Lars: I don't judge songs for what their purpose is, or is supposed to be. I judge songs for what they are. And I think that one is rather good. Stupid lyrics, yes, but the music is more than OK.

@ milamber: actually I like some country music, so here you'd find a (rare) disagreement between you and me. :) As far as worst vocoder use, I'd quote this one as a better example that yours - that French band built their whole career on their silly use (IMHO) of the best-known voice-changing device. Regarding the KLF, of course they made much better stuff than "What Time Is Love" (their "America" version of that song was really good) but what I was referring to is the original version, which is nothing but a silly synth sequence repeated over and over and over and over. That one is simply not a song to me. According to the same logic, would you argue that this is a song?? :D

Ah, and of course Frank Stallone got the job because of his better-known brother. His singing is pure shit but the song is nice.

For legal reasons Youtube won't even tell me which these songs are.

But sometimes the outcome has the intent printed on its forehead. Like a charming hooker. The sex can still be good (I suppose).
