At the moment... hmm I started to listen a lot to Dire Straits lately.
Love over Gold I would say. I love especially Telegraph road and Private investigation.

Waiting for Cousteau could have been a lot worse. I think Calypso is about as good as 90's Jarre can ever be, and the title track is pretty good ambient music... though I'm thankful he didn't dabble with it again. Ambient is one dangerous place.

Robbie is the local Jarre pusher.

Except for "Chronology" he does not like Jarre's albums being used as a Frisbee     :(

Thanks Cam... Better not tell him about the future shindig instalment: "Who Shot Jarre"!    :O

[heck, I own two fully electronic Aphex Twin CDs that very few Tubularians actually own!]

You made me curious, Ugo! Which records are those? Would they be some of those ultra-obscure releases or by one of his "aliases"?

@ Sir M.: no, they're common Aphex Twin releases - drukqs and Richard D. James Album. However, I don't think many people here (apart from you) are really familiar with those CDs. Ah, I've also got the entire Analord series on FLAC, bought from Rephlex Records - the original vinyls aren't available anymore, of course. :)

I've been a complete fan of a guy called Mason Williams. Just recently discovered his music is terribly unknown apart from a song entitled Classical Gas. I posted this song recently on the what are you playing now topic. For those who have missed it, I will post it again. He has such a great song, it's called Here Am I but youtube of course doesn't have it.

I've been listening a lot to classical music lately. I really like Brahms and especially the violin concertos. But I've also been listening to more obscure composers such as: Busoni, Ligeti, Myaskovsky and Vincent D'Indy. I have to thank nightspore for opening a world that I until recently did not know and which has given me many delights.

Here's the Mason Williams classic:

Ah, I see. Druqks is a behemoth of a mixed bag, but the Richard D. James album is a real classic. I'd dare say that anyone who wants to have ONE Aphex Twin record should get that one. It's representative, short, diverse and has some of his best tracks ever (4, Fingerbib, Girl/Boy and Logon Witch Rock).

@ Sir M.: "4", "Cornish Acid" and "Girl/Boy" are my absolute Aphex Twin favs. All of them are great.

@ HR lover: most of Mason Williams' music is terribly unknown because most of his other compositions are ordinary Sixties pop. "Classical Gas" is one of the few that isn't. :)

Er, what is this thread about? Ah, Favourite Album at the Moment. Well, for me, right now, it's more Macca:

Macca played all of this by himself, just like he did on McCartney and McCartney II. Whoever said that Paul is dead? He's very much alive, in every sense.

You're welcome, HR. I thought Brahms wrote only one violin concerto, or have they just dug another one up? That sort of thing happens surprisingly often, particularly with Schubert and Haydn.

The only music I know by Ligeti is the bit used in 2001. To me it's effective in the film but I wouldn't want to listen to it by itself.

One piece I really like is Georgs Pelecis' "Concertino Bianco", but unfortunately it's not on youtube. It was written as part of a submovement to bring simplicity into classical music, and it's very effective and moving, in my opinion. Here's a link to it:

@Ugo I remember Macca saying he played all the instruments on Chaos and Creation as well.
Pretty sure it was the producers idea though..

1. The Beatles made ordinary sixties pop yet they are pretty known.

2. He doesn't make ordinary sixties pop, his music strikes me as very original, besides his music is often more folk and country.

He made a fantastic song called Here Am I which has twice an acceleration in the tempo which makes it totally awesome.

To show you he doesn't make ordinary pop I have another Mason Williams song.

No need to be sorry HR. Perhaps in some parallel world Brahman catalogue there are two violin concertos - even if one is only a remixed version

My favourite album at the moment is JMJ's Revolutions.

Nightspore because of Kubrick's films I got to know Ligeti. Most of his works in Kubrick's films are vocal but I prefer the instrumentals. His mechanical music is awesome here's a clip.

this one is also good IMHO

Been enjoying this album. There's a first time for everything, this is the first time anything by Madonna evoked an emotional response in me. I like lookin' at her too, since 1983.
