I think Calypso is about as good as 90's Jarre can ever be, and the title track is pretty good ambient music... though I'm thankful he didn't dabble with it again. Just recently discovered his music is terribly unknown apart from a song entitled Classical Gas. I posted this song recently on the what are you playing now topic. For those who have missed it, I will post it again. He has such a great song, it's called Here Am I but youtube of course doesn't have it. I've been listening a lot to classical music lately. I really like Brahms and especially the violin concertos. But I've also been listening to more obscure composers such as: Busoni, Ligeti, Myaskovsky and Vincent D'Indy. I have to thank nightspore for opening a world that I until recently did not know and which has given me many delights. Druqks is a behemoth of a mixed bag, but the Richard D. James album is a real classic. I'd dare say that anyone who wants to have ONE Aphex Twin record should get that one. "Classical Gas" is one of the few that isn't. Er, what is this thread about? Ah, Favourite Album at the Moment. Well, for me, right now, it's more Macca: Macca played all of this by himself, just like he did on McCartney and McCartney II. Whoever said that Paul is dead? I thought Brahms wrote only one violin concerto, or have they just dug another one up? That sort of thing happens surprisingly often, particularly with Schubert and Haydn. The only music I know by Ligeti is the bit used in 2001. To me it's effective in the film but I wouldn't want to listen to it by itself. One piece I really like is Georgs Pelecis' "Concertino Bianco", but unfortunately it's not on youtube. It was written as part of a submovement to bring simplicity into classical music, and it's very effective and moving, in my opinion. He doesn't make ordinary sixties pop, his music strikes me as very original, besides his music is often more folk and country. He made a fantastic song called Here Am I which has twice an acceleration in the tempo which makes it totally awesome. Most of his works in Kubrick's films are vocal but I prefer the instrumentals.
