I know we all want another Ommadawn....BUT>!!!

the less instrumentation, means the EASIER it is to play live !!!!

Read between the lines !!!!!!...
Its all about comfort and security.....in a group.
I predict some shows as a " band" in 2013....

Caroline's latest post apparently sent whilst still meeting him, included a comment about his private life.

I love her involvement and all the hints about a new album, but personally I feel that is a "post too far". Pictures on the beach with a beer is one thing, but do weneed to know his emotional state too?

Olrac, I don't think he's going to be talking about his mood in particular.  I believe it is more or less about Psychology and the importance of good mental health.  He is helping others by venturing into this area.  He's giving back :)  I applaud him!!

All sounds interesting. Steve Lipson is a protege of Trevor Horn. His output isn't really my cup tea, very commercial - Geri Halliwell, Ronan Keating and others of that ilk but he did produce a recent Jeff Beck album. Maybe that's the sort of sound Mike wants. Anyway if its only at early discussion stages then it could quite likely change. Its a shame Mike wouldn't choose to work with Tom Newman again for this sort of project. Tom seriously understands Mike's sound in a way no one else seems to.

Mike is a good song writer, a dreadful lyricist but great songwriter. If its all AOR/MOR sort of stuff then I'm less interested and it could easily die on its arse in todays music world. But if its genuinely interesting and inventive and perhaps crucially has a lot of atmosphere then it could be truly great and put him back on the map in a way another Cafe Del Mar type album never would.

Look forward to it anyway.

ps. I'd love to see Simon Phillips on drums but I reckon he'll stick with Tom Robinson.

Well, as to Mikes love, Hate or ambivalence to social Media, it seems Caroline has got his interest.

She has set up a dedicated Facebook group where she can post on Mike's behalf.

Mike on Facebook

Some great relaxed photo's there of Mike.

:) so happy that there's a new album to look forward to....words will never be able to express quite how much

I've always said I'm content with what we already have, in such a diverse back catalogue, and I still feel this way...but...but...a NEW album...is going to be ...just so unbelievably w e l c o m e !!

Looking back, Mike's album releases seem to have coincided with fairly significant times in my life and each one has been a kind of support through or a celebration of these times...(I don't think I am alone with this thought either, with the music being like a kind of 'life soundtrack' as someone on Tubular.net once said). And now I've turned a few corners, thought about what's really important in life and feel much more on the right track...doing something that makes me very happy...so I'm MORE than ready for the next Oldfield Original.

I'm not going to speculate on what it will be, but I will hope there's loads of guitar and that Oldfield magic weaving of themes and a few surprises along the way...no doubt!!

'What is Facebook'? ;) I am not on Facebook so I'll keep looking here for info :)

How lucky you are to not know. Oh jeez, the innocence of the world before Facebook.........It's a website where you can share anything.....or nothing about yourself, I'd suggest very little as a lot of info can be gathered based on what people STUPIDLY post. It's basically Twitter on steroids and with lots of meaningless games to play, a lot of casino's and slots.....I was addicted to a game that died, called "Vinyl City" but its developers abandoned it. Now, facebook's embroiled in mostly political controversy since Obama got re-elected. Mostly, I think it's a whole lot of unemployed people living off the govt. tit with nothing better to do(hence the occupy movement of about a year ago). Mike's personal site looks cute tho. I liked Terry's comment, "I haven't seen my little brother smile in a long while..."

Very good news, BUT :

I hope that the new album will not sound like rock albums of the 80s. It is really the period of Mike that I prefer to forget...
I believe that the real fans from the very beginning waited rather for an instrumental, and I am a part of it...

I hope the new album includes atleast one instrumental Yann .. Maybe its the 10th track he mentioned he had ideas about. Hopefully there are instrumental sections in some of the other tracks as well esp. if Mike is still going to be his usual innovative self and not be too formulaic/orthodox.
:)

I would be estatic if the new album sounded like the early 80s rock concerts ! Best MO concerts I attended and I've been to quite a few over the decades !

As I have said before, the problem with this ‘band’ situation is that everyone is focusing on the lead singer. The guitarist becomes part of the backing band. Mike’s forte and uniqueness is that he is an instrumental rock artist, something unheard of now. Making a ‘rock album’ is what everyone else is doing. Anyway I will be looking forward to the release but you kind of know what you are about to get, on the other hand anything now is a bonus. It is just a little unambitious IMO.

The world of rock and roll seems pretty dead to me. I can't really name any rock bands, even modern ones, making "rock" albums these days. Rap and computer-pop (aka lady gaga, taylor swift, etc.) seem to be the dominant genres now-days.

I think it would be refreshing to hear a rock album from Mike if it was something like Five Miles Out. I too look forward to an instrumental piece from Mike.

I for one would love to hear something like Discovery which is near the top of the list of my fav. MO albums as well as rock/prog albums of all time. It was a magic album of 3 people, Simon, Maggie and MO. If he can come close to that, I'm a happy camper.

Oh come on! He's got to ring them at least once on that album.

Mike Oldfield with various intruments?  ;)
That sums it up I guess.

I don't feel a need to speculate. I'm just so happy that Mike is feeling inspired enough to produce something new again.

Looks like Caroline is keeping Mike on his toes - she's persuaded him to add a very brief video welcome to the facebook page.
