Hi all! Here is a freshly revised version of a submission I made in 2012. At the time I still had a full-time job, and had practically zero time (and resources) to invest into this, hence the poor--if not embarrassing--result. Furthermore, not being from the music industry and being totally ignorant in these matters, I had interpreted "remixing" as strictly working from the original stem files. I was therefore amazed to see how much creativity (and original material) other contestants had poured into their submissions. A truly humbling experience...

Now that I'm semi-retired and have more time on my hands, I thought it would be fun to revisit the 2012 submission and use this as an opportunity to learn more about mastering--something I know very little about. I'm finding out that mastering is an art of its own, which calls for a different type of creativity than the one associated with composing. Anyway, the end result is still entirely based on the original stem files, therefore don't expect anything more than subtle (and some not-so-subtle) differences with Mike's seminal first opus.

These remixes are great. They are used as background music on tik tok +18 a lot nowadays

Here is mine, I called it The Cathedral Remix.

I tried to get it on my SoundCloud account but I wasn't successful...

I was listening to Jon Hopkins a lot at the time and read an interview where he said he used a very long reverb and selectively only added short bursts of things to feed the reverb and then the long sustain formed a chord underneath everything else. So I gave it a try :)

Yes, liking this, nicely ambient...Terry Rileyesque!. I'm liking the addition of the "girly chorus" too.

I see what you mean about Jon Hopkins, I did something similar with the ambient remix of (the beginning) of Part Four of Incantations, with the one piano note, though it was more trying to get that Pink Floyd piano through a Leslie on Echoes.

Of course this does give me the excuse to (re)(re) post my version here:
