Is it just me or does anybody else find that when playing TB 2003 on a computer that there are considerable gaps between each track?  And due to the nature of the music these gaps cause pauses in the music, spoiling the enjoyment of the piece? :/

It bothers me too... I hate it. I find it strange that Mike didn't care about that. Huge mistake if you ask me. Making an mp3 albumwrap seems the only solution to me.

Not only on computer - also on my DVD player and portable - well, you get what you deserve when you buy cheap, I guess :( Same problem for all continuous disks with track marks, so at least this is something the copy protection cannot be blamed for...
Well, just fixed it - got now a perfect standard red-book CD with 4 tracks (part1, part2, sailor's hornpipe, single mix).
BTW: what's that funny circle/triangle icon supposed to mean? :D The CD looks just like a normal CD to my PC  :p
And, yes, I paid for the CD, I'm not going to return it after having ripped it, and I'm going to make MP3's (for my personal use only! ) since 10 CDDA's are far less handy on a trip than one MP3 CD..

All albums do that on computers... I't annoying, but what can you do? (I used to have a walkman that did the same thing. Boy was that annoying).

I suggest that, unless you want all of Mike's future albums to behave in this way, you return it (though that may not apply if you have the same problems with all CDs divided into tracks in this way). Unless you do, the record company will assume that people are happy with the album the way it is.

I have a page about the subject here. I'm going to do as much as possible to let the record company know I'm not at all happy about the copy protection issue - is anyone going to join me?

Well said Korgscrew. You have my 100% support. I'll keep banging the drum on the alt.music.mike-oldfield Usenet group. I have reported the corrupt CD to several sites that monitor copy protected CDs and have put a warning on my Mike Oldfield website index (see sig). If you can find an e-mail address I will write a letter of complaint to Warner Spain. Better still you could put a draught of the letter on this forum for other people to add their signature before sending it.

This website is very informative and makes interesting reading about copy protected CDs http://ukcdr.org/issues/cd/quick/

They're very secretive about their contact details (hmm...I wonder why...could it be because they'd be flooded with complaints?). I will try phoning when I get the chance, and if I get anywhere, I'll make sure everyone can have the phone number so people can irritate the heck out of the staff  :D

Thanks for the URL - I may well make use of that.

Well, in this case, I have no complaints at all, I ripped the album and compressed it a format I use (musepack) and the playback is 100% gapless, as always. Should be also perfectly gapless with mp3 with the correct output plugin settings in Winamp.

But I  agree, copy protections are extremely stupid and pretty much worthless, they don't do the job (tb2k3 has been available on the net since may 22nd) and only annoy normal people.

I think it's annoying too. But I wouldn't waste any time into this, the record company won't even bother paying attention to this subject. As long as people keep downloading mp3's there will be copy-protection.

I've already found a way to rip Tb2003 onto my computer...It's pointless really, there is always a way around copy protection and theres not alot that record companies can do to stop that

You've certanly got my full suport, like I said I'd gladly return my copy if I hadn't already given it away. It would be good if we could get an email adress to bombard with protests. The thing is we should actualy get Mike on board because although this is a universal problem that will effect all artists CD's, this won't happen if the artists in the fist place tell the record company's not to put copy protect on the disc. Remember Mike said on that recent BBC radio 2 interview that he had to agree to have the protect feature included in the disc.
I'm not saying bombard Mike with protests but I think he should at least be made aware that there's no point in him putting all the effort in in the first place if people are just going to return his albums to the shops without being able to hear them. I reckon the record company will listen to him before they listen to fans.

However I'm all for direct action. If the record company's are made to realise they're going to start losing even more album sales I reckon they'll sit up and listen.

That's (almost) exactly what I also did - I was lucky enough to find a huge mp3 including the whole album + Introduction (Single version)... all-in-one. I splitted it with a cute little app called Mp3 Splitter, burned the resulting files, and now I have a perfect audio CD with 3 tracks: Part 1, Part 2 and Introduction (Single mix). I didn't put the Hornpipe [or the Pornhipe, as Tim H. would call it :)] as a standalone track for two reasons: 1) IMHO it works splendidly as a conclusion of TB as a whole, right after Mike's swirling guitars end; 2) I already burned it as a standalone track on another CD. :)

...except that I bought the CD (+DVD) and apparently am lucky enough to have a CD-RW drive that doesn't care about this kind of copy protection, so I didn't need to start from asn MP3, but have 100% CD quality.
So -SHINE-, sign in for what ? Trading CD copies for a blank + proof of purchase + S&H? Sorry, no way...

Well, as I still have some trouble with the "quote" function, and as I was a bit disgusted with the gaps between tracks while writting that post, I think you'll understand:
I just have forgotten to quote the first Korgscrew's post here, when he said if someone would join him in telling the company that he wasn't happy with all this copy protection.

I am also going to buy the CD. This one I have burned is nothing more than a methadone (a palliative?), waiting to get my big dirty hands on the real thing :). And I also am lucky enough to have an old burner/player who doesn't care at all about the presence of the so-called compressed sound file (and about its player included on the CD), as I have disabled the Windows autoplay function. Anyway, I don't think I'm gonna play it in the computer... I'll just use it to make a safety copy.

Why do so many people seem so happy to have to spend time fixing a broken product when they have already spent 10 to 15 quid on a disc that shouldn't be corrupt?

If Warner really think that the copy protection will prevent millions of illegal copy's from being made why aren't they charging about 5 pounds for the disc. After all one of the excuses that record companies have made for high prices is that they have to cover loss of sales with the high unit price.

The thing is that, though they may be losing sales, they're still selling a lot of copies - didn't Tres Lunas go platinum in Spain? Judging by that, it doesn't seem like Warner are in any great danger of going under...

If anyone wants to show their displeasure with copy protection to the record company, the first step is to take the album back to where it was bought. Further steps are writing to/phoning the record company, writing to magazines, consumer organisations, and anyone else who might be able to help publicise the problem.

It´s disgusting this.Terrible.I´ll join the campagn soon with my website.

Why an artist like Mike Oldfield needs this kind of stuff?
There´s no reason for that.

Long live the freedom to get a cd without this crap called Copy Protected.
