I don't think so but it's 1 of his most intersting ones.
And it can compete with the quality of Incantations/
He shows with this cd that he is still ambitious

not the best album ever (IMO), but a good one nevertheless. i'm still a die hard fan of TB3.

No sabemos si va a volver a hacer una gran obra maestra, así que no podemos contestar, pero su mejor obra (de Mike y del mundo musical) es OMMADAWN. Sin duda.

We don't know if he makes a great work teacher again, so we can not answer, but their best work (of Mike and of the musical world) it is OMMADAWN. Without a doubt.

This is not his best but it is one of his better ones. I also feel Ommadawn is the best.

I have not got Tres Lunas yet. I have, however, heard the short samples on the site and they are very good. It certainly is on track to be one of my favourite albums.

I agree with you that this is a good album, but not the best. I think that it would sound much better if the "sax" was removed from all the tracks and replaced by a different instrument (It destroys the mood).

No!!! My playlist:

1. Ommadwan, TB
2. Amarok, Hergest Ridge
3. Five Miles Out, TB II
4. Heaven`s open, Incantations
5. TB III, Platinum
6. Crises, Distant Earth
7. QE 2
8. Killing Fields, Voyager, Guitars
9. Millennium Bell, Discovery
10. Tres Lunas, Earth Moving, Islands

My Tres Lunas favorites:
1. No Man`s Land
2. Turtle Island
3. Tres Lunas

But I think the album is too simple, a bit one- dimensional sometimes. Some tracks like Landfall are not real pieces, just snippets without a context.

not the best but yes it is really good. TSODE is my favorite album. there is no music in the world anywhere that is more beautiful than this album IMHO. and it will NOT be easy to beat. i wish he'd make another album like TSODE.

anyways my fav TL songs are Return to the Origin, Fire Fly, Thou Art In Heaven, Sirius, and No Man's Land Reprise.

T3L is for me the best Mike´s album, it´s very nice music. Mike´s music is for me like entry to the mysterious chamber and T3L is the thirteenth mysterious chamber.
My favorite tracks are No Man´s Land and Thou Art in Heaven.

Same as Timshen: not his best CD, one of his best.  ;)

I haven't heard or purchased Tr3s Lunas yet, but I will soon.
I've been an Oldfield-fan ever since Tubular Bells 1, and my all-time Oldfield favourite is Songs from the distant earth.
I don't think any album by Mike will be better than Songs.

Actually, I think this album is similar to Songs from distant earth; in that it has the same mood.

I'd mostly agree that Tr3s isn't Mike's "best," but it is very poignant. For the record, TSODE is my favorite, and I think everything between that album and Tr3s was "pretty good," TL seems to have more spirit to it than Voyager or even (gasp!;) TB3/MB. The latter two albums seemed to rehash classic themes, while Tr3s goes somewhere else entirely. IMHO ;) I did like "The Inner Child," though - what emotion at the end!!

It's all a bit daft, this talk of "best" album. How can you ever define music in that way, as if there is some kind of external objective standard against which it can be measured.

I find Tres Lunas very enjoyable to listen to, though not quite as enjoyable as the Tubular Bells series. What spoils Tres Lunas for me (and, I must say, too many of his almbums) is that the themes established in one section are not seamlessly carried forward and developed in subsequent sections. I much prefer a long piece, building, growing, evolving continually - rather than the seperate tracks approach. There are some common elements developed across the tracks, but it could have been more so for my taste.

I have to go with Ken on that one; I find that I have so many favorite tracks across Mike’s entire collection that I could never pin the label "favorite" on any one single album.

Tres Lunas...hmmm, had it a week. Must admit that on first play I didn't like most of it, Return to the Origin being the big exception. Seven days later? It’s really growing on me, a very subtle album indeed.
