When I had a go at writing some music a la Oldfield, the Hergest Ridge list of instruments was the template.

If you've recorded music in the same style and soundscape as Hergest Ridge I'd be interested to hear it. Is there any of your music online?

I'm listening to this now - very nice. I particularly like the closing melody of Part 1. Any chance of making it downloadable?

Ah yes... cough cough... well well... Incantations... ewww and doh and eat my shorts etc. Mike is entitled to one mistake! I remember discussing this with Pete Renolds at Uni and he confirmed that it is not a good album.

Yet another reference to Pete Renolds...will someone *please* tell me who he is?!

Hmm, is he related to Ronnie Pickering?

Isn't Pete Renolds is that mate of Nightspore from uni?

I knew him from Uni, yes - but not a "mate" (awful word, connoting as it does death). I could never be friends with anyone who wore ridiculous platform shoes.

His musical taste was accurate but too wide. For example, he was enthusiastic about Grease, Saturday Night Fever and "Don't Throw Stones" by The Sports.

There are bits and pieces that I like, but as album Amarok fails to keep my attention for more than a few minutes.
As for "the real Mike Oldfield", I don't know if Amarok is it. It's a deliberate attent to do it "as in the old days". "Let's get the bodhran and the flute out, and do some folky stuff".

If your dad squeezes himself into his old, tight jeans - is that "the real dad?" :D

I like about 25 noncontiguous minutes of Amarok. The rest is hard work. It was welcome after Earth Moving but for me it's definitely not part of the canon.

Of course. If it coincides with mine, it's accurate
