I did not think i would like it as much as I do, and i was very surprised with this album! It's really really good! This is just a cool album, and the atmosphere it presents itself is amazing.

It seems as if MO wanted to perhaps convey himself as a guy down the street (who happens to just kick ass at playing guitars). This album is deffinately not as complex as other ones, but still satisfies the eager listener. ALthough the music on this album is quite amazing and complex, the feeling that I get is that MO is just like cool friend who I would want to sit down and listen to him jam in the basement, not a celebrity in the recording studio. I do not mean to call him average (he's anything but that), but i think this album makes it a little easier to relate to him, and it seems as if he is just one of the neghborhood guys.

This album i believes offers many different feelings that can be associated with music: from calm stillnes, to good old rock and roll. I think it was quite an effort to produce several tracks with different melodies and sounds. The few allusions to previous recorded works is cool too.

I believe my favorite tracks on this album are Out of Sight, Cochise, and Entaginism. While I think i still prefer his piano pieces a bit more, there is no doubt in my mind that he just kicks ass at Guitars.

I bought Guitars a few weeks ago, and I agree that it is a good album.

It might not be regarded as a classic, like Amarok, Ommadawn, or Tubular Bells, to name but three, at least not widely, but to my mind, it's an album that sits up there with some of the best. Not always out there to grab the attention of the listener, but a great album to listen to over and over again.

-Tim-

P.S. My personal favourites: Muse, Summit Day, Four Winds and Out of Mind.

I listened to Guitar recently and I discover something wonderful.
The whole album guitar make me feel the same as I listened to Hergest Ridge. Peaceful and Aggressive.
Does anyone have the same feelings as me ?

this album was a surprise...i originally thought it would be ok but not that great. well gee was i wrong. ive just got to make myself believe that everything mike oldfield makes is gonna be good. and it is....from all that ive heard so far. my fav songs are Cochise, Summit Day (AMAZING song i love this), and Out of Mind. I agree with whoever said it sounds like Hergest Ridge too. Muse reminds me a lot of the begining Hergest Ridge Part 2

Muse is awesome, and so is Out of Mind. The real rocky bit freaked me out the first time I heard it. I really like the solo at the beginning.

This is an interesting album. it beats me how he gets the drum sounds from guitars. Prehaps that's a discussion for the Tubular Tech topics.

It's absolutely brilliant this album :D
Embers and Summit day are so beautiful, just like Enigmatism and From the Ashes. Had there been real drums on Out of Sight/Mind and Cochise it would have been my absolute favourite :) I always play Embers when I'm in love

Don't worry about this 'fuk all' guy...
I traced him down, and made sure he won't be able to type a single word for the next ten years or so... :(  ;)

I agree with you. I fell in love with this album the first time I heard it and got a pleasant surprise as well.
Some of the songs are simply amazing and are played with such a strong feeling.
Out of Mind, Four Winds and Cochise are my favourites.
I never get tired of listening them over and over. Specially Four Winds because of its differents stages and varietys of feelings.

Agree, Guitars is a very good Album. It's fresh, simple and "mike". Maybe the "last real Mike" (yes, I know that's stupid, but you understand what I want to say, don't you?) before the "Millennium Bell" change.

good!

An under-rated experimental album that takes a little time to love, but once you're in the groove some of the tracks really kick, especially Muse, From The Ashes, Out Of Mind and Enigmatism

I have NEVER listened to this album, just the occasional bit from it.... So to remedy this I have bought it today and it should arrive in the next few days.

Cant wait to give this one a thorough listening....  :)

Completely agree.

Maybe I have no taste?  I have yet to find a Mike Oldfield album I don't like and I am running out of new ones to listen to.

Or perhaps Mike and I were born on the same ley line and share the same vibe.  I remember he once said he only writes music he would like to listen to.

This one is straight into my top 10 - once I find a suitable spot  ;)
