I know you have spent alot of time and effort in this mix, and it´s good, but calling it a good introduction til MO, this is where the chain snaps off.....If I was MO and listened to e.g. ocenia, amaroq, solar eclipse and holy pool, I would buy a big elephant shotgun, launch my helicopter and start hunt you down  :D

it depends how you look at it, because they are pieces of mike, even if he want or not. All is pure MO.
And it is a nice overlook. It is like all crazy stuff in a music collection box.
So just start shooting...

i would call it sucide  :D

It is like all crazy stuff in a music collection box.

I wasn't sure about the whole idea of this project of yours, Kay ... so for a long time I just left it alone. But yesterday I decided it couldn't do me any harm to give it a try, so I did....

First observation - what  a lot of work! No one could say you hadn't put enough effort in! Second observation - although there were sections where I wasn't sure I liked the combinations that were being made, mostly I enjoyed the unusual presentation of the music - the sense of familiar themes turning up in unfamilar circumstances.

But then, as CD 1 approached its end (and I was really looking forward to hearing the second CD by then) ... oh, oh, oh. No, no, it can't be, I thought. The Margaret Thatcher monologue!!!!! The worst artistic judgement Mike Oldfield ever made, and close to being an unforgiveable sin - and here it is presented as a highlight!

Oooh, it cuts like a knife! How I wish you'd left that out.

it is all matter of taste really ;)
For me it is one of the best part in Amarok really..
Funny to read all you write. It was really a hard job and it took almost all my time (i was sure that this was the last MO project ever) But i have some ideas so i think i never learn..
So little time but alot of ideas.

But as we all know, endings are just beginnings  :p  ;)

Well yes indeed, and I have more to say.

Not sure whether you'll like this, Kay, but I decided to try to remove the Thatcher monologue using Audacity. I chopped out those few minutes, and then sliced off tiny fragments until the two parts joined seamlessly together with no break in the rhythm.

For me, this has made a big difference, knowing that I didn't have to listen to the Thatcher stuff at the end, though I realise it isn't quite what you intended. But the effect is really beneficial - I've listened to both CDs 3 times each now, and enjoying them more each time. It really does what you wanted it to do - it makes me listen to old material in a new way, and I'm getting a lot of pleasure from it. (Incidentally, I think you make the extracts from Light and Shade seem a lot better than they are on Light and Shade! )

So thanks for this - I'm very glad to have it, and very grateful to you for making it.

hey Alan.
It is ok. The most important thing is to enjoy the music.
I think your idea works very well. I can imagine the feeling of knowing that the end of the song is not your cup of tea. And the song is long to.

You mention the Light and shade part (that must be Oceanic?)
I actually got that title from a Vangelis album, but I could call it Oceanian too. But that would be confusing We allready know a song from TSODE in the same title.
Im very happy with that song. From 4.08 is my favorite part.
I think it suits it very well.

:)

Well, I'm enjoying this more and more with every listen! I must say, Kay, I think you've done an amazingly inventive thing here! It makes all the official  'highlights' albums seem very dull (as indeed I've always felt they were).
