My Libelle sailplane was built in 1973. What else happened that year? Oh wait...
I christened her the Tubu Libelle. There is a nice symmetry there...as Mike is a big fan of all things that fly.

No, Balaklava GC, South Australia. Noarlunga isn't suitable for gliders. Its a small GA strip. Not far from home though.

FYI, I have posted a few RC videos on Vimeo, almost invariably featuring Mike's music. My stuff is mostly long range FPV slope soaring.
Theres some full size clips too.
I know Mike used to fly RC slope gliders, at Hergest Ridge among other places.

I post as "Ommadawn"

Ah Balaklava I thought it looked like SA.

Nice videos. Great soundtrack on some of them.  :p

Pardon my ignorance of the terms... several of these are videos shot from RC planes?

Yes. The video camera signal is downlinked via a miniature analog TV transmitter, to a special TV receiver, and  displayed on a portable TV screen. I use a 30" LCD in the back seat of my car. This image, along with sound, is used to fly the model aircraft. I capture the video with a portable DVD burner.
Using this system I have been able to fly my models up to 25km away.
The range is displayed on screen (the LOS on the image refers  to line-of-sight distance, in feet.)
The navigation and other flight aids are generated by an on screen display (OSD) which is also installed in the aircraft. It has GPS, gyro stabilisation and barometric inputs to assist with flight management. The OSD also has an autopilot which can generally be relied upon to bring the aircraft home if the video or RC link is lost.
Its lots of fun.
