Whoever he picks Mike should remember that the original worked brilliantly because Viv Stanshall was subtle and didn't overstate his presence. I hope he's joking when he talks about having the likes of Mr Bean doing it, I just don't want another Walt Disney Tubular Bells II production again.

That's my feeling as well. Avoiding someone who overstates his presence is what would make me wary of John Cleese, as I find he tends to come across in a rather exaggerated manner. It may well be possible to get it to work with him, but I'm not sure of Mike's skills when it comes to working with actors.

What about if Mike himself did the MC part?

i also agree that Patrick Stewart would be a very good choice.....can u just hear him? just picture it......"Grand Piano..."    and then at the end "Tubular Bells!"

come on! Patrick Stewart all the way!! he is a star trek fan...but it looks like (to me anyway) that it will be John Cleese....oh well..that'll be cool as well....but i still think Patrick Stewart would do an excellent job

......then get Michael Dorn (Worf) to do the Piltdown man!! :D

I agree that Patrick Stewart would sound superb.
Hawking or Moore would be...interesting.

Possibilities would include Rod Stewart or Maddy Prior (she's already worked with Mike so she might be interested).

But if we're going to consider "silly" MC's there's only one real option.

Joe Pasquale!!! :O

What about Larry King from CNN? He does one-on-one interviews on TV, with the deep powerful voice, but is subtle too...

Homer Simpson? ;)

For me, the best one should have been David Bowie, but I haven't heard John Cleese original voice, so, let's wait and see...

The thing about the MC parts on Tubular albums,is that although there is only one voice on the released version's,Mike does used various other people to speak the parts aswell, like Billy Conelly etc,so i wonder if Mike has recorded anyone else apart from John Cleese!!.
