Hi from Switzerland,

Do you know that The Lake is in Switzerland?
Its real name is "Lac Léman" in French. In english, we often see this: Lake of Geneva, but it is a mistake!

Here is a link (in french :/ )       http://perso.wanadoo.fr/lycee.noailles/leman/fr_03.htm

Regards

PS: By the way, the track "Lake Constance" on the album Milliennium Bell is talking about a lake........in Switzerland, too!

Mike loves my country!

I've only heard "The Lake" for the first time, recently, care of a YouTube vid - but it was only a seven-minute excerpt. I really liked what I heard, though, so I've ordered Discovery.

Look at the back of the sleeve of Discovery album and you will see this sentence:

"Recorded in the Swiss Alps at 2000m within sight of Lake of Geneva on sunny days"

Mike had his studio in Villars-sur-Ollon in 1984 and recorded his album Discovery.
Villars-sur-Ollon is a ski resort within sight of this lake!

It is why I am sure he speaks about this lake
;)

Then why did he write this; 'In english, we often see this: Lake of Geneva, but it is a mistake!' ?

Oh, he was talking about the name of the lake. I was thinking it was two lakes.

The name of the lake is "Le lac Léman" in French but it is "The Lake of Geneva" in English. It is a mistake!
This lake is between France and the French side of Switzerland, therefore the right name is "Le Lac Léman"

:)

The word mistake implies that there actually was a mistake. ;)

I like the opening guitar solos as well, has a nice "oceanic" feel to it - unusual style for Mike's guitar - like the guy who played guitar in Twin Peaks.

the theme at the end is a simple descending scale. Nothing wrng with that - Tchaikovsky did the same. Both work brilliantly.

"Oceanic"? Could it be "Western" as well?

Ooh must give that a listen tonight when I get home...hopefully that means the 5.1 mix is even closer.

Really hope this is the first one we get a CD+Blu-ray option for, please those of you on his FB page recommend it so we have a lossless option for the 5.1

Yeah I am dredging this up because I'm a bit excited about the new Discovery.

Memories of the 12 year old anorak I once was. :p Happy days.

Listen to it... wonderful, the guitars providing a simple melody and Mike at the peak of his powers playing lead bass!

Magic.
