The mathematical surface formed by two intersecting cylinders - or tubes, to justify my posting it here  :D  - is hard to picture but quite pleasing once an image is displayed. Interestingly, its form is present, if only partially, in lots of architecture, notably the Thames Barrier. It's as though London is silently paying tribute to Tubular Bells!

Yes. For some reason the shaded area creates the illusion of concavity for me, much as the early photos of Mars' craters looked convex rather than concave.
