And thanks, Maria, for giving me my new current windows wallpaper.

This could very well be the worst song Mike has ever composed in his long, storied career.  To me, it's worse than filler.  It seems he recorded 4 different male electronic voices, and than just put the computer on "run" for the next 5 minutes.  It's just a lazy compostiion.

But, take off this track, and L+S is an outstanding album.

I wrote a track called The Gate 2 years ago...
I don't like Mike stealing my ideas and then not send me any money :(

16 people publicly disagree with you (I didn't vote)

It's not awful, poor perhaps (although not in my opinion)

Saying it's awful would be like saying a meal is disgusting just because it had broccoli in it  ;)

Quote (maria @ Oct. 21 2005, 22:16)
last time i was playing tr3s lunas.
we were in places where there's no music and i decided to listen to 'light' to fill that thick silence.. we were flying up and up and one of the times we stopped to look how far the earth was, 'the gate' was playing and this is how i suddenly saw a virtual singer

I'd forgotten that I'd intended to ask you about that picture, María, when I saw it in the MVR gallery (I'd missed this post till now) but here's the story at last! Gracias!

Yes, it's definitely the best track on the whole Light + Shade, along with "Closer".

But I wonder how it will sound with real voices, and also with real accordion and mandolins, it would be one of the best Mike's tunes.

But, moreover, with the ideas in "Light", Mike could have written a beautiful 20-25 minutes suite like in the old times, but he didn't, maybe for lasiness, maybe for lack of real inspiration. My feeling is that with the Light tunes plus some other more ideas Mike could have given us a new Ommadawn or Hergest Ridge. Pity.

bye

As many people agree that it's awful as well ;)

And for me, saying it's awful would be like saying a meal is disgusting just because it had synthetic broccoli in it   :D

de nada, alan. it was the first time i went up with u in swords game world. it was also the first time i listened to light while playing tr3s lunas. that was a great game and now 'the gate' and that view of tr3s lunas are linked. since that moment i've changed a bit my mind about this track; it hasn't become a favourite, but the voices aren't unpleasant anymore.

I finally received the CD in the mail today.  Still listening to the whole thing, but The Gate is spectacular.  I love it.  The kind of song that gives me shivers.

The production took weeks, but I got there, and got abit bored on the way  ;)  Final proof that the vocoloid is probably better

But is this you singing, Bell(end)?

(I get a vision of some old bald man in a large orange dress singing it on top of a large mountain) :)

Well done man  :)
You're good at singing the right tones (I always sing too high/low, so it's out of tune) and you have a very low pitched voice! You sound more mature than I do  :/
hahaha

Good work! Please record the whole of L&S using just your voice! I'd enjoy that!
Expect it to be ready by 2042  ;)

Thanks! I have never considered myself a good singer, because I'm not  ;)
I guess it is quite low pitched for a 15 year old, wahey!  :D

I wouldn't mind being Christmas number 1, with a vocal rendition of 'closer'

I may do a track, just for fun......

[EDIT] And I did! A very lazy effort, but Closer demo track is here   ;)

That is 'Who wants to be a millionaire' in the background  :)

Well, I finally just dubbed a copy of L&S, and omitted this (ahem) song.  The music flows so much better now, without 'The Gate' pulling down the rest of the fine work on L&S...
