I the 'The Gate' sounds beautiful, I have no predejuices against Mike's use of the vocoloid at all. I truely think it is wonderful. The choir boy effect and the main voice are excellent and the harmony works really well.  :)

My vote? 3rd option. My opinions: It definitely would be MUCH better with real voices. As it is, it's ok. BARELY ok. And it depends on my mood: it'll be ok on a good day, atrocious on a bad day.

Imagine an album of Cylon love songs.

its absoultly perfect! This song gives me peace! Its just like walking down a gate to a green place and just feel love and good feelings. This is not a bad song at all. Thinking about that mike have done this vocals to robot voices dont mind me at all, since he have on/done them. You know, remixed them to robot voices from beeing human voices. This is mike and i feel that this is hes place!  :)

The first time i heard it, i thought it was very different, i love the accoustic guitar break in the middle, simple and effective melody.
I think Mike has done very well with the virtual vocalists, a lot better than most people were expecting, ok he could have used real vocalists, but Mike likes to try new things, and this is new, nothing wrong with that.If he has used real vocalists, then i guess people would be moaning about the choice of person.

The Gate reminds me of David Bedford, particularly his album "The Odyssey". I can't say I love it...

Although I've still not received my CD from Amazon.com, I have listened to the 60-second snippets of all of the songs.  The Gate was the most emotional song for me.  I love it.

4th option, not a stand out track for my ears, very little progression or emotional content. each of us hears different things, arrives from a different direction.

But from Mikes track description, I do see where he's coming from with this track.

I like The Gate!  For me i must be a cloth eared nincompoop or something but i've got a feeling if Mike said that all the vocals on this album were sung by real singers rather than vocaloids no-one would dispute it.  It's an inventive track with a nice acoustic guitar bit, wouldn't be out of place on the Millennium Bell.

Imagine an album of Cylon love songs.

Would that be Cylon Dion?!

What is Cylon?

I adore the Gate. It is deep and strange and I find myself drawn to it. It reminds me of the Buddhists chants that go on for ages and seem to sink down inside you and make you forget where you are.

LOVE IT! :)

I think it's very beautiful. And also very eerie, with those seemingly endless synthetic chants. ;)

What is Cylon?

Here is a typical old-school Cylon. If it sang, it would likely sound similar to the voice in "Sheba" on QE2:

Here's a modern Cylon:

Looking like a lounge-singer, she can probably sing at least as well as the Vocaloid.

Thanks Hiawatha, though I feel none the wiser I do at least have an image in my mind now!

Neither look very 'friendly'!!!! Think I'll stick with listening to the Gate.

beautiful? hhmmm.. i can't decide yet... i'm not sure it can become a favourite, but something funny happened to me last time i was playing tr3s lunas.
we were in places where there's no music and i decided to listen to 'light' to fill that thick silence.. we were flying up and up and one of the times we stopped to look how far the earth was, 'the gate' was playing and this is how i suddenly saw a virtual singer
at least now those strange voices have got sort of face for me  :D
