Rhino has released Mike's 30th or so compilation: The Best of Mike Oldfield: 1992-2003. You can order it at Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, etc.

The collection is drawn from Oldfield’s eight studio albums released on Warner Bros. Records between 1992 and 2003, a period that saw him revisit Tubular Bells three times.
The inclusion of non-album versions, rare edits and radio mixes on the first CD will be welcomed by fans and disc two takes this a step further with various remixes, including The Orb’s “Orbular Bells” mix of Sentinel.

30 or so collections? I have a couple of my own, but this seems alright to me. Sums up the cd-box already released, and gets the missing parts of platinum collection. But the latter and the complete mike oldfield still seems the best to me

This is a good compilation. Some excellent tracks and at least 8 that  didn't have.

The Complete Mike Oldfield (which was about the first thing I bought after discovering Tubular Bells, all those years ago) was the best sampler for a a while even though it only goes up to 1984. Covers most of the 70s singles, has nice excerpts from the long instrumentals, etc. It also had some cooking live tracks (like the version of Platinum - which sounds like it came from the European Adventure tour since it sounds like a similar arrangement to the Montreux vid) and until the recent deluxe editions it was really the only sanctioned release of live material from any of his tours after 1978. In fact I think the some of the live shows on the deluxe eds include some of the same recordings as the bits on TCMO.

As for this compilation, I picked up a lot of the non-album stuff on from the early '90s singles as they came out at the time. To me it looks like it fills the gaps that the Essential collection didn't really cover (I mean that had too many mixes of those awful songs from Earthmoving). I'll probably pick this up if I see it anyway just to collate all that stuff.

Early Stages is, of course, the early mix of Sentinel from when it was just Mike and Tom involved, before that Trevor guy got on board, so it feels a bit more "organic", if you get my drift. I do think it's kind of a shame that the finished TBII didn't really have that same vibe.

In my opinion, BT's Pure Luminesence remix of Let There Be Light is probably the best remix of any of his work not done by Mike himself. It goes for 13 minutes or something, it keeps plenty of Mike's guitar in it but BT wasn't afraid to put his own mark on it and is suitably epic. Might be a bit over the top for some but basically I flogged it to death.

(I'd put the Orb mixes of Sentinel close to up there, again they're not to everyone's taste because they utterly deconstructed the source material and made something awesomely spacey and strange out of it, but it probably helps that I'm an Orb fan as well.)

The new Warner Compilation is really a good one, as it concentrates on 10 years and the tracks fit together perfectly. I don't like most Oldfield Compilations (except for The Complete and Impressions) because i don't want to listen to In Dulci Jubilo followed up by Shadow On The Wall.
The new Compilation has good remixes (e.g. The Orb & BT) and some rare tracks i haven't listened to for a long time.
But this compilation also reveals that between 1992 and 2003 there were nearly no changes in style and sounddesign...

I bought all 4 albums on vinyl. I have just got back into vinyl in recent months and wanted a few special items and these seemed to fit the bill nicely!

I really like the new Warner compilation because of its rarities on CD 2. Not every mix is my cup of tea but I really got positively surprised by title 1 to 7. Especially Indian Lake, The Spectral Army  and The Song Of The Boat Men make it all worth to me....      :)

"Early Stages" is remarkable. It has "that magic" of the 73-83 era and gives a glimpse of how wonderful things Mike and Tom could (can?) do together.

I agree with you on "Early Stages" -- and just realized disc 2 containing it has wandered to someplace other than its case, yikes! It would be fantastic if Mike and Tom worked on the prequel together. Tom has been doing such interesting projects and I think that they could create something very special.  [wanders away to find that disc......]
