Yes I think they do too. It's one of those situations where form and content are almost perfectly chosen - the synthesised sound of the voices conveying something about the plight of the singer.

@ Jeremy: yes of course it is, but as I said it's been argued about for ages, here & elsewhere. ;)

So... How can this be argued about?  :O  Some people have no ear or what?  :D

The vocaloid fits the song but... When I hear the result, I'm happy to know that we're not soon to have a software able to replace a real singer. And that's a good thing! How that vocaloid stuff would suck if it was used to make believe it's a human singing!

'Some people have no ears or what?' LOL

I think that in Five Miles out and Light + Shade, the non-human sounding voices ADD to the music, imagine Orabidoo with Barry Palmer or Maggie Reilly, or Surfing sung by Cara Dillon, really would make me like the song alot less I'm certain  :p

Have u seen those earrings in my eyes?

Regardless, that is the best line since "Shot 6 Times by her manager Ron" or "Take a Winter, Brain, and Saw".

Perhaps add this to the list 'She took her standard pose as she presented her sex?'

By the way, what would that even mean? Could sex be code for her genitals or what? That would be confusing, but would the Family man still have resisted?  :O

Some points:

As Ugo said, the Family Man lyrics have been discussed elsewhere. Family Man is on the album Five Miles Out, so relevant topics will be in the Five Miles Out forum. If you can't find anything there, they may be elsewhere. You can always start one in the Five Miles Out forum if you don't find anything either by browsing or using the search facility. It's off topic here, and therefore annoying.

Nesting quotes within quotes is kind of annoying too. We've already read the conversation, so don't need the whole thing repeated.

I've already said Surfing was sung by Cantor - why are you still talking about Vocaloid? Perhaps some people do need the conversation to be repeated (in which case I recommend printing it out and reading it in the bathroom. You can always use the pages with posts you disagree with to wipe...er...the toothpaste off the bathroom mirror).

Posts that just say things like 'I agree' are also annoying. They're the kind of thing people post when they think that post count is equal to IQ. If you want to boost your intelligence, eat oily fish and watch Countdown.

Because that will forever be the name for any of those singing software pieces.

A couple of things to say, further on down the road:

1. I'm now starting to hear, quite distinctly, 'Have you seen the light in my eyes? ... Have you seen the faces in my skies?'

2. I'm starting to find those parts of each verse remarkably moving. There seems to be a plaintive 'weeping' emotion associated with the 'singing' which quite amazes me. I wouldn't have thought it possible to get such expressiveness from synthesised vocals.

Although I fell out somewhat with the defendant, I feel that such comments are unnecessary. No one cares about their post count. (as there is no reward for posting alot) Everyone has the right to agree and make their agreement known.

As for you 'how to increase your intelligence tips, I watched Countdown for years as a child and learnt nothing, I take fish oil tablets to increase my concentration span and they don't work :p

1. I personally said Vocaloid because I thought it was the only singing software Mike used on Light & Shade. I was wrong, I won't make that mistake again.

2. I agree, it's very annoying.

Sorry I couldn't resist  ;)  I just wanted to answer your question about Cantor.

Regards,

Jeremy

So, maybe Mike intentionally put it as "sun-rise"

Or "sun rise" as a reference to Internet servers going online.

Laugh and leap into the valley."

Well ... independently from Sun Microsystems ... "Have you seen the sun rise in my eyes" does indeed make a lot of sense. Thanks, Hiawatha. ;)

today i've read this song  in a primary school book called "Galaxy":

Quote
"The World Wide Web"

I can skate and I can ski,
I think it's great to climb a tree,
but I've got an special interest
it's fun and easy too,
I love searching the Internet
and learning something new.

I like surfing, but not the sea
the www is the place for me

I can run and I can hike
I think it's fun to ride a bike
but I've got an special interest
I discover facts online
I love searching the Internet
and learning all the time

I like surfing...

is this a version for kids of 'surfing' or what?
:D

my take:

Have you seen the sunrise in my eyes
(We won't believe it)
Have you seen the mazes in my skies
(We felt and seen it)

chorus:
Surfing, I'm surfing
I've looked & I'm searching
I've fallen right into the net
Morning and evening
I'm flying and dreaming
Oh, can't keep it out of my head
(Surfing, I'm surfing)

(repeat chorus)

Have you seen the phantom in my dream
(We won't believe it)
Have you seen the spaces in between
(We felt and seen it)

(repeat chorus twice)

"We seen it" seems a little ungrammatical to me, thought it wouldn't be the first time that Mike wrote ungrammatical lyrics... chech out "Northpoint" and "Magic Touch". :)

This appears to be the definitive version according to the Japanese. [Just clic ignore when the language coder comes up and s croll down.]

I, too, hear the word "conceive" as shown in the Japanese lyrics page.

There are several tricks I used to use when trying to determine lyrics.

One was easier back in the days of vinyl.  I would slow it down on my turntable and then listen as the words weeerrrreeee aaaallllll draaawwwnnnn oooutttt.

The other was to turn it up loud and go in another room.  For some reason, I could hear words better this way.

Try it and let me know what you think.

There are some very clear mistakes in that Japanese version:

I can see [Have you seen] the sunrise[?] in my eyes
(We won't believe it)
I can see [Have you seen] the mazes[?] in the [my] skies
(We can't conceive it)

Surfing, I'm surfing
I'm hooked & I'm surfing [searching]

I'm not at all convinced about 'sunrise' and 'mazes'. The software seems to do some very odd things to consonants. 'Sunrise' is certainly wrong I think - though 'sight', 'sights', sunlight' or even just 'light' are all possible. [I know 'light' seems unlikely, but the letter 'l' often seems to cause problems for text-to-speech software, rather as it may have done here.] I don't believe 'mazes' either, and think it more likely to be 'faces' or 'phases'. 'Faces' is my preferred option - makes more sense as a lyrical piece of poetry.
