Is the amarok server or the website not a possibility?

You have other older stuff of yours up on the submissions section

Okay, let's wait for a response from Ecco, then.

Stephen who used to maintain the Amarok site doesnt actually do it any more (in fact, from memory he can't actually get back into it to take it down now which isn't great for people like me that have their email address on there being harvested, but that's another story).

My email to Ecco bounced, apparently his inbox is full...

I decided to help out Matt here (for a little while at least).

http://smc.sq7.org/miscfile/brandon/sohr_all.mp3

It's the older one he used to have up on his Geocities site not the one he has uploaded now so I don't know if the quality is different or not.

The quality of the newer one was slightly better, but for now Ecco seems to have vanished into the ether... as long as you all promise to download the newer one later (in a kind of "replace all future mixes of Hergest Ridge with this one" style)

Thank thee, Brandon! I've been able to download the song. And what can I say? It's staggeringly gorgeous! That's what I would call a "Musical Crossover", and it was very, very clever. Really, for the most part, this track stunned me. Let me try to rationalise:

The Pros:

1) The beginning was brilliant. Gorgeous, really. Intelligent use of drum machines with the original melody, and the piano is powerful, too.

2) The crossover of "Lament For Atlantis" with the piano melody was very, very clever. Beautiful, too.

3) The part immediately following was grandiose, too. Wonderful. It really brings forward the melodic power of Hergest Ridge.

The Cons:

1) You left off my favourite part of the record! The second half of part one, with that chord sequence! Aww, I really think you could have made something grandiose with it.

2) You could have ditched the section covering the "Sturm Und Drang" theme. I think it didn't work, frankly. The Choir section at the end of part one would have done a better job.

3) Why, oh, why did you stick the synth sax in there? :p

But anyway, even with the cases against, this was a wonderful effort. Really, really worthwhile. I liked very much the ending crossed with the "Sunken Forest" sounds,  too, even if I wasn't all comfortable with the melody. But really, this was powerful. This sounds way better than the actual "Songs Of Distant Earth"! You sure can value a good melody.

Thumbs up!

I was having trouble working out all the chords and, frankly, I wanted to finish the thing.

That was purely there as a TL reference and a kind of in-joke for us Oldfield fans. Also it's was really easy to do quickly compared to trying to make a electric guitar sound like Mike's.

Still I'm glad of both postive and negative feedback so keep it coming. I really want to get a list from someone that hated it.

I see. Those are complicated chords, indeed, I understand. I still have trouble myself to work out the correct chords. But still, I miss it! ;)

Ok, I should have seen it like that, as an in-joke. It just made me frown my face when it came on, but I guess that was the intention. :D

Ecco's hosting of it (the slightly newer version that I tidied up and did a better MP3 compression of) seems to be working again - but don't overdo it or it might all stop working again...

Ricken made some tabs of polyphonic guitar transcriptions on his website. You can find the tab and a treble staff of HR here:

http://ricklabo.cool.ne.jp/play/HR01_TAB.html

This should help you with the first theme
