Not up to Mike's usual standards this. May be better as backing to visuals but is not strong enough as a stand alone track. Very wishy wahsy and disappointing. Still, maybe he is saving his inspired material for his next commercial release...

It's not a bad track, but I miss something...some freshness. But there are electric guitars on it!

Mike really captured the spirit of writing a track called "Song for Survival",that were my feelings while I was listening to it.

I just love the sound of drums in the evening. Congratulations Mike for this piece of music. There remains a little caveman in the boy yet....
Don't ever think of retiring yet Mike, other projects will inspire you and bring out that creative storm inside you...yes I am being very cheeky today
Cheers,
Deb

You know eveything about Mike's instruments, so tell us if Mike used the Fender or the PRS for this new track.

The fans do not agree. Some think it is the PRS and some the Fender.

:D

It was made in 2007, maybe before or at the same time with Music of the Spheres.

I have troubles listening to the percussion, it's not bad but it sounds like it's from a totally different track.

:D

That is definitely the Fender Stratocaster sound which Mike used a lot over the decades. If this track was in fact produced in 2007 this particular guitar is most likely the red 1963 Strat.

;)

I had one of our 3D siesmic data analysis subcontractors put the wave file through a £400,000 data analysis system and compare it with part of Tub 2 where Mike plays the PRS and the wave form characteristics were the same.

Conclusion : PRS

Ray, can you really do that?  :O Or is it something Denzil Dexter would try to do? I just have no idea if you're joking or not. :)

Mr H.  Yes.

The data that is usually processed is 3 dimentional seismic information taken from about 150 hydrophones towed behind the back of a boat.  This process is used to find oil up to 15000ft below the sea bed.  The signal processor (big computor in the bowels of the ship) processes the sound waves detected by the 150 hydrophones and creates a 3 dimensional map of the rock formations in the earths surface.  It can compare any sound signal with another and tell you the correlation between the two.

It is a bit like radar but for sound waves.

For a full three dimentional oilfield map you would have to pay about £2,000,000.  But if you know the guy who runs the computor you can get Mike Oldfield tracks analysed for a coupld of beers!!  :D  :D

Ray

PS you would be amazed how bad an oilfield sounds through headphones!!  (....as opposed to an Oldfield)

...But you do seem to know a lot about how things work, and that's cool enough.

About these nice tabs you and others do: Would it be possible to make them with bar lines as well, just for clarity?

Off Topic @ Ray: do you work on an oil platform? Or an oil tanker ship? I don't know anything about that kind of job, but from what I've seen of it, and from what people told me about it, I think it's wonderful. Of course it's not so for you on the spot, I guess. :D

On topic: I still haven't got SfS, Italy's iTunes ain't got it. I think I'll either have to wait for the physical album to be released [if it is ever released here in Italy!! :D] or for some kind soul in here to send me the mp3. :p
