Song For Survival, Mike Oldfield's track for Bruce Parry's Survival International charity project, has been digitally released on iTunes UK and Play.com as part of the Amazon album. You can also preorder it on Amazon.co.uk. The Amazon TV show starts on September 15 on BBC2.

Thanks, Molly!

Update: now available on international iTunes stores as well.

Update Oct 9: out in the shops on Oct 13. Molly also informs us that the Amazon TV show is pretty popular with an audience of 3 million people a week.

I really wanna buy the track, but here in Brazil there's no chances at all...is there any chance to get it legally besides on iTunes UK and Play.com?

Ill wait for the "Album"   Heard a clip of something early in Last nights Show which sounded quite tasty. Not sure who was playing it..   Think the Album will be worth buying though complete rather than cherry pick the MO track off it..

There's a delicious irony there, if you think about it!

From the sample from Play.com it sounds like something between Flowers of the Forrest and Closer.
Anyway, good to know that Mike is still composing, so I guess he's not retiring, at least for now....

??? Don't see any irony there . Be more explicit please .

It's the same here in France , i can't ordering via Play.com ... maybe with amazon.uk but not even sure .

.... or is it about the fact that Tati doesn't want to buy the entire album or because she lives where the Amazon river goes through ? .... Honestly i don't want to buy the entire album but only Mike's track . Is it bad ?

The irony is on the fact I'm a brazilian, just this.

BTW,I live so far away from the Amazon river...I live in Sao Paulo,in the middle of the jungle made of...stone

It is very heartening to hear that familiar MO 'sound' again, and good to know he is still making his music.

According to Molly Oldfield's reply to an email  David from MikeOldfieldBlog.com sent her about the track:

-Mike's track was composed last year and it was the second track to be recieved for the project.

-All the samples from all the tribes(taken from BBC's Tribes) were sent to all the musicians involved on the project and each one have chosen their favorite...it Mike's case it was the one from the Anuta tribe.

Thanks Molly for the info :D

Hey Korgscrew......hey manintherain.....hey Ray....

You know eveything about Mike's instruments, so tell us if Mike used the Fender or the PRS for this new track.

I have seen somewhere that Mike recorded this track last year, therefore it is possible he used the Fender....

Thank you....

:)

;) I'm not a good guitarist , i know , but i guess any good Fender is a good Fender ! I think all is in the playing and the effects ! He has surely kept something that helps him to make his particular sound  ! So , that's probably played with the PRS .

:O ...... Ehhh , José ? Did you let Mike play with your guitars ?    ;)

Hey Mr Y

It reminds me of something but i can't put my finger on it - perhaps Millenium Bell??

I would imagine he would have used one of the newer instruments for this.  But it is not really possible to tell.

It sounds quite light on multitracking - ie not a lot of simultaneous tracks.  Quite pleasant really.

Lstening again .... i have to go for the PRS... just something about the tone... but of course this could be processing?

Hopefully he will make a mini video of him making this song and we will all be able to see it!

Ray

Yes TT - He has still got the yellow PRS.

I think that is what Mr Y is referring to...

I have similar feelings about it.

I listened to the 30 second clip on iTunes and thought it sounded alright. Some nice ethnic percussion and good old MO guitar.

I was quite disappointed by the harsh and out-of-tune ethnic singing that's on the whole track. I may edit the MP3 to make it half the length.... ;)

Cheers,
Terry.
