I finally managed to hear the full song [thanks, Dkay! ;)] and my view on it is that, in addition to being absolutely nothing special, it's exactly what I expected it to be: Mike Oldfield meets Debut-Album-Deep Forest. :D There is really nothing else to it, at least IMHO, even if I do like Mike returning to his Voyager-ish PRS (yes, it's definitely the Horse-Guards-Parade-Concert-First-Half-of-Moonlight-Shadow-Solo PRS... :D Ray was right...) and to some vaguely KillingFields-ish synth sounds (from 2:42 onwards), playing a melody that, when performed by him, sounds half-religious (a kind of follow-up to L+S's Closer) and half-traditional-Irish. When the tribal choir sings it, however, it becomes something else... as the whole thing moves deeper into the forest. :p

:) Finally i've made the effort to install again ITunes on my PC and i've bought the song . Well , i like it even though this is not what i expected  but the melody sung by the Anuta Tribe is nice and so nicely magnified by Mike on guitar ,... so i only can to love it . .... eh ! I've been following Mike since my twelve years old , so what do you think i was going to say ! Mike for the worst and the best !!! Fan from the very first time !

All right...

Ray and Taurus Outacast say: The PRS
Manintherain and a friend of mine in Spain say: The Fender

Hey Mike! Which guitar have you played on this track?

I wonder why nobody really knows...
I am not a guitar player, so I only can believe what the specialists say.... :/

Hey Korgscrew, what do you think of?

:/ Maybe i'm wrong but i think the " sound " of a Fender is more ...  " round " , more "  hot " ! This sound is a little bit "  metallic " at the end of it , because of the " double microphones " ( humbucker ) of the PRS ! But maybe my ears are really bad ...and maybe i'm bad myself !   :D

Not sure to have found a good English translation for the words in quotes !

I love this piece; it has all that yearning and soaring feeling that I find in all my favourite MO pieces. Perfect for having in the background if you're standing on the summit of a mountain in the tropics overlooking a vast seascape.

I am transported back to twelve years ago (this month) and reminiscing the mood of Voyager. The 'longing' in this piece is similar, so perhaps not quite the aching heart of Voyager.

I really can't understand why people can hear TSODE or Voyager in it... IMHO, I think it sounds like it is from Light & Shade, and in particular the track "Closer". Or the Tr3s Lunas game.

But then again, I´ve not heard the entire track yet so I´m commenting on something incomplete. ;)

**** a bit off topic **** When I was typing this message, I got a really frighting-like sensation that I really don't "know" the album Light & Shade. I forgot what the the title of "Closer" was and even scarier, I even don't know the entire tracklist anymore. Normally I know the entire track list of every Oldfield album, but I just realised that L&S is the least listened album for me!  :O Damn! I just have to play it more I guess!!

Yes, I can hear a resemblance to "Closer". The Amazonian chorus reminds me of "Amber Light" as well.

To be fair it`s a fairly "celtic" sounding melody so I think that`s were the Voyager comparisons are being drawn from.I mean I think when people first heard Closer they compared it to a Voyager track anyway. It`s also pretty close to Flowers Of The Forest for instance.Although I do agree maybe it`s closer to Closer   ..  :p Again with the TSODE similarities it`s got that whole Celtic/Tribal thing going on which is very much predominant on that album.Plus even the rhythm track itself is nigh on identical to that little part reggae shuffle motif that appears during the transition section of In The Beginning/Let There Be Light. It`s just that on this occasion Mike decided to use that "pattern" throughout the track rather than as a little backdrop/introductory piece.

That happens to me more and more these days now I know exactly what you mean. For myself I`ve generaly put that down to too much multi-tasking(yes blokes can do it too..kind of)rather than sitting there intently with the album sleeve gripped in my hand.Changing times and changing environments for me..I wish I could get back to being more err whatchamacalit??..Attentive yeh that`s it.. I got distracted there for a moment or two.

Small correction: The Anuta tribe lives on the other side of the World, on an island in Melanisia. Just thought I'd mention because the intension of this double album is to raise awareness of these matters. :)

Au contraire, my friend. It's very interesting.
Lovely melody from the Anuta's accompanied by Mike.
Remember this was an existing melody, not something he composed.
I'm for the yearning and soaring as well.

Hey Korgscrew......hey manintherain.....hey Ray....

You know eveything about Mike's instruments, so tell us if Mike used the Fender or the PRS for this new track.

Not sure if you've found out yet or not but the guitar on this track most certainly sounds like a Fender Strat to me.

Having now read some of debate on which guitar was used maybe we should have a wager. My money is on the Strat!

It certainly has the "yearning" but not enough "soaring" IMHO. So much more could have been made from the simple melody by Mike's guitar "soaring" much higher than it does. Not that it's a bad piece - I quite like it, but feel there could have been so much more :-(
