Ok perfect singles..... 1)Waterloo Sunset-The Kinks.A perfect single IMHO and full of typical Ray Davies imagery and so English. 2)Itchycoo Park-The Small Faces.Again damn near perfect. 3)Paperback Writer/Rain-The Beatles.Brilliant riff on the first one and although i always preferred Lennon's stuff this one is brilliant.And then on t'other side a Lennon song.Perfect! 4)Layla-Derek And The Dominoes.Been mentioned already but such an iconic riff.Died a death along with the album when it was first released in 1970 but did much better when rereleased in 72. 5)Lay Lady Lay-Dylan.Can't really say much.One of the best 70's Dylan singles.Don't know that much about his 70's output aside from Blood On The Tracks but this is great. 6)The Smurfing Song-Father Abraham and The Smurfs."Where are you all coming from"So profound.Were are any of us coming from?Those little blue guys had it all so sussed. 7)We All Stand Together-Ruoert and the Frog Chorus/Paul McCartney......i may be taking the piss here.Or i may not. -------------- THE COMING OF THE GREAT WHITE HANDKERCHEIF IS NIGH. Usually with the amp turned up to 11   Clarity of the piano, then the guitar and "Boom"! People who don't know him and hear only that song may think that he's just a rock/metal singer with an ugly voice, which of course he's not. Many Italians who only know "Moonlight Shadow" still think that Mike Oldfield is a woman. Perfect singles? There are many. Here are some: [Layla - agree 100%] The Beatles - Hey Jude/Revolution Deep Purple - Black Night Queen ... no, not Bo Rhap - too common. Let's say "Killer Queen". Cavalier (Lost Version) Group: Members Posts: 598 Joined: Nov. 2010 Posted: Sep. 09 2011, 08:22 This thread has been revived too often recently - now pay the price! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvLDm8821jQ Seriously, this is a cracking intro.  The use/sample of the snares is inspired.  Unfortunately, their inspiration doesn't sustain the track as a whole.  Hearing it in full for the first time in a while, I didn't find the rest of it as disappointing as I remember but once the modern percussion kicks in and the "doops" are there it's just not the same.  The alternate version, as this is one of those songs that no one ever really seemed to work out was the true version, where it breaks down into a charleston is no better or worse.  Check out the Top of the Pops clip as an example of that .  And double check out the Rammstein one.  That is truly inspired -------------- "Who was that?" It's called "Sidney Berlin Ragtime". The other piece on the same A-side is an even better (IMHO) version, called "Jean Lejeux et son Orchestre".
