Rent a car and enjoy your visit to Hergest Ridge - it's the best way to go there!

It's a gorgeous day here in the South East of England (sunshine, blue skies, birds singing) and I am imagining what it must be like on Hergest Ridge for yanouch65...flippin' marvellous I'd say.....probably can see for miles and it's just got this peacefulness about it. Hope you have had a great time.

Really wish I was there, haven't been in a while and I think I need it more than I realise. It sorts my head out, all that space and air! Will have to plan a trip in the near future.

Hello

I am back from Hergest Ridge. I slept at the Beacon for 4 nights. The room where I stayed is downstairs, exactly where the Grand Piano was. When you enter this room, you can see a poster of Mike on the wall and two books about him near the bed (Changeling and A Man And His Music).
The area is very very nice. I went for a walk three times on Hergest Ridge and Bradnor Hill.
Note this: we can see Mike at the end of "The Making of Ommadawn" walking on a hill and on the cover of "Music of the Darkness" sat beside a model. This place is the same and is not Hergest Ridge. It is on Bradnor Hill and we can see Hergest Ridge in the background. Many people here says that these pictures have been taken on the Ridge but it is a mistake!
The owner of the house took me to this place.
Really a nice trip!

Is it running again as a B&B?

I'd love to go and stay there, but at the moment,no car at all makes it completely impossible.

Glad you enjoyed yourself, Yanouch!  I saw your review above the testimonials on the Holidaylettings.co.uk page last week whilst I was arranging my booking.

I hadn't checked the pages that I found in March over the summer and I haven't seen anyone on Tubular Net announce their plans, but this is a big ( and not completely English-speaking! ) world wide web, and I'm delighted to see others have found their way there  :)

When I was in a pub in Kington, a guy told me that about 10 people from different countries in Europe were there a year ago. It was a Mike Oldfield meeting.

Very strange! Did anyone hear about this?
I have seen nothing here

:/

Maybe it was a group of MO fans who are not much into the web?  ;)

Hmm. Well, a year ago this weekend my youngest daughter and I were in the UK for a few days. Unfortunately there had been so much going on prior to hopping the pond that I forgot to contact a few other folks I'd meant to get in touch with. Guess that is reason enough to return! But anyway, there were eight of us--Germany, the UK, and the USA were represented, so if it were the Oxford Arms, guess he might have been referring to us.  It was nice seeing close friends again, and getting to know a few others. The weather was so lovely ("disturbingly beautiful" as one mentioned--great phrase! ) and the hike on HR was glorious! Some very funny things happened, and some wonderful things, too.  Perhaps someone else could expound on what I've just said. And golf is an evil sport!!! :D

BTW, my daughters and I stayed at the Beacon in 2005. The two youngest ones stayed downstairs in the Grand Piano room. Regarding the living room with the fireplace, it felt as if the musicians had just left...maybe a couple of days before. To me, the fun, the work, the essence and echoes seemed contained in the walls.  Hard to explain.
