This is a direct link to the BBC Radio 2 Player. 11 a.m. in the UK, but 6 a.m. here in NY --hope that I wake up in time (should hop on the Moonboat to Dreamland now so I do! ).

Bryan Adams springs to mind, in a fairly good way.  Like it.

Yes, I tuned in too. I used the TuneIn radio app on my phone. Good stuff! I found that the tune immediately melted into my brain and I can't get it out. A talent many musicians/composers have from time to time, but Mike Oldfield does this most of the time.

I liked it, I have a feeling it will get more and more appealing the more I hear it, the first thing I though of when hearing it was Fleetwood Mac, Rumours era. I liked Luke's voice too. It's a very upbeat song from Mike, and knowing the songs they play on BBC Radio2 I think it will get frequent air-play.

Sorry, but I thought it was completely forgettable, with trite lyrics. It's the least Oldfield-ish song he's ever done IMO, in fact if I'd heard that on the radio without the artist being announced, I'd never have realised it was Mike. It's just generic bluesy rock that comes and goes and leaves little impression.

Very, very disappointing, but then that's been Mike's music all over since TSODE. I genuinely think he's lost it.

I doubt there can ever be another Spheres or Incantations,  so I will take what I can get.

I don't think he's "lost" it--he's just set course for different waters.  IMHO it's all good; no shipwrecks here. :) I am anxious to hear the rest of the album to see how it all holds together.

This is the first piece of Oldfield music that sounds like it could have been made by any ageing bluesy rock band. There's none of his original spark in there at all. His music always used to have a unique "Oldfieldishness" to it, but this doesn't. It's completely anonymous and generic.

Hey ho.

I quite like it! Reminds me a bit of some of the tracks on Islands.

First attempt at lyrics below, any idea what that word on the third line might be? Any other corrections also welcome!

---------------------
Sailing
from Man on the Rocks
Mike Oldfield

Let me out, I can't breath
Gotta get out of this concrete hole
I'm ??? and I'm dead
I've gotta break free before I lose control

Cast the lines away
From the dock at the harbour bay
All those cares and worrys and woes
You can save them for another day
Because we're sailing, sailing
Yes we're sailing, sailing

Give me space, I'm on fire
Banging my head against a hard brick wall
And I'm gone, so long
You can leave a message but I'll never call

Cast the lines away
From the dock at the harbour bay
It's a fine bright day
And the wind is blowing away
Lets go sailing, sailing
Yes we're sailing, sailing

<guitar solo>

Cast the lines away
From the dock at the harbour bay
There's no cares no worrys no woes
And the wind is blowing away
Lets go sailing, sailing
Yes we're sailing, sailing

<guitar solo>

You know that if you want to come with me baby you can sail away
Cast the line
If you've got time, come with me baby

sailing, sailing
sailing, sailing

HEJ!! I am listening already 2 hours recorded radio broadcasting with out any Mike Oldfield music in to the program!! It just past 11 O Clock there was a news and after that nothing happens and there is no Mike Oldfield music in the list of songs in to the program below !! It is just The Arts Show With Claudia Winkleman and I check out the early program and the next one but nowhere it appears Mike Oldfield and also no data about the song into the browser!

Assuming you've got the right programme, go to 1 hour 37 minutes. There's the news, then Sweet Dreams by the Eurhythmics, then Sailing.

To make sure you've got the right programme, it's this one: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer....y_Years

Unfortunatelly, the song is not much in my taste - it's just a standard modern pop-rock track... very radio-friendly though, so it could be a potential radio-hit.
However, there are some guitar moments, which are clearly recognizable as in Mike's style of playing, what is nice.

Well, this is exactly what i expected from the forthcoming album, so i'am not very disappointed, but quietly hope, there will be a few instrumental tracks, among the pop songs.

Late-Era ELO meets the Travelling Willburys...
Or in other words... Did Jeff Lynne produce this?

...was expecting better. I'm a bit dissapointed, even the guitar was re-hashes of the ol' muscle memory licks... and for the solo to basically just follow the melody line... I dunno...

Thanks for the tip off, but I'm afraid that I was very, very disappointed! I though it was bland and forgettable.

If this track is representative of the rest of the album, then I for one, will not be buying it!
