The other day an extract of Ommadawn was played on Desert Island Disks,  this explorer bloke chose it saying that our friend mike was one of the most talented msucians.

That's good that he didn't choose Tubular Bells. Shows that he knows Mike's music more than the average person

The full list can be found here:

until the end of this week

That's a bizarre list. "Can't Get You Out Of My Head"?

Hehe it is really, isnt it?   I wonder if anyone else has put any other Oldfield albums on their Desert Island Disks...
Can't really be bothered to go through all those names of other "Castaways"

You can do a search on the Desert Island Discs site, sadly only 3 people have choosen Mike's music:
Richard Branson - Tubular Bells
Ara Darzi - Tubular Bells
Pen Hadow - Ommadawn

Mike himself has not been on this program, but maybe in the future he could be as he has probably been to a desert island near him.

...it's not quite the same thing but.... back in 2006 he did a 'tracks of my years' on Radio 2 for Ken Bruce...I can remember sneaking away from work to be able to listen to it on a radio I'd smuggled in ... ( how things change...now I'd just tune in on my phone and discretely use earphones and no one would be any the wiser!  )

This programme was in the days before the autobiography came out, so maybe less was known about Mike then.

The tracks are listed on the second page thanks to Tati's good work!!

here

I'd love to hear him on Desert Island Discs for three reasons: firstly, it's Mike so of course I'd listen! Secondly, I think it is a really interesting way of hearing about someone's life, funny, factual and sometimes quite moving too, and lastly, Kirsty Young is a brilliant interviewer...she is sympathetic, sensitive and very perceptive...and has the ability to gain the confidence of her interviewees allowing them to really open up.  But only 8 songs and then to choose 1...very difficult thing to do...although I suppose it does make you think what music really does stand out for you.

:)

Yes, I also remember hearing Mike on Tracks of My Years, I still listen to that show every week :) I was always supprised Mike chose Hendrix, I don't feel and liking of his music from Mike at all, but then you can just like someone's music without being influenced by them.

Even further back he did a show called "My Top Twelve".
(I think we're talking early 80's)

Which I'm sure I have on cassette tape somewhere!

Here's where My Top 12 was raised a few years ago - I'd totally forgotten it was one I contributed to!

Very interesting, I would not have guessed those songs would have been choosen by MO, even the Pink Floyd track is not one I would thought he would have choosen, but then I guess you can like and then dislike certain songs over the course of many years.
