Portals to Other Worlds

At various places in the game there are portals which transport you to another world. These are often (but not always) hexagonal-shaped structures, like this one, through which you can fly, or fire something.

Portal to space-skater

An example is the portal to the space-skater's world. This is on the end of a peninsular, jutting out into the sea (you can't miss it - see position 4 on the map) not so very far from Tai Chi Island, and near a set of green crystals.

When you go through, you find yourself in space, with a stick man skating among the stars, and some music. There are various planets you can explore. To return to the origin, you can either find and touch the comet that roams these parts; or you can fly to a hot spot in the nebula from which lights or sparks seem to be spraying.

There's a special dodge that can be used here. If you go through the portal once, with an avatar, the avatar is replaced by the skater until you leave. But if then you go a second time through the portal, the space skater doesn't appear and you keep your avatar. This means you can explore the planets and the nebula without the distraction of the skater, and also if you're playing online you can meet other people who've also taken their avatars through the portal.

Moonface portal

The black moon face (see position 5 on the map) also acts as a portal, taking you to a crater in a lunar landscape.

Not a lot seems to happen at first, but then spiky balls will start to rise from the ground, and then a circle of large spiky balls appear. The idea here is to create your own mix of music by approaching the balls.

As you shoot them, they disappear. When all are gone, you're sent back to the Origin.

Oh - if you explore a bit, you may find a tiny hexagonal portal. It is dormant and we have yet to find its reason for being there.

The answer is 42 - but what is the question?

Portal to Indian Canyon

From the airship, follow the red rocks across the ocean to the not-so-distant island, where you find a sparkling obelisk. Touch the obelisk to get to the start of the indian canyon.

At the start, there is a praying mantis sitting on a picnic table, and you can fly down a shaft leading to the river - both with no apparent purpose. There are some spectacular views as you approach the canyon. Follow the canyon to reach the indian village, near to a lake with a fountain in the middle, where you can meet the Indian girl. Caution: don't try to throw anything at her, or you will meet the dragons in Bad World (well, you have been warned now...).

You can meet three coloured paperplanes, which will play a little tune each when you get close.

On top of the hill to the left (marked by a vertical beam of smoke puffs) sits a ring inside a stone circle - take it to the fountain in the lake for another trip through Rebirth Tunnel. If you stay too long, night will fall and take you back to the origin. There's another ring inside one of the tents of the indian village - this one is bad and will set the spaceship hunting you if you take it (with 'danger' alarm and all that) and give you the exploding volcano and burning cactus if you don't get rid of it in time (the fountain in the pool is also good for disposing of the bad ring).
[OR ... you can give the ring in the tent to the Indian girl (just approach her with it), who will express her pleasure in its return - added by Alan D]

If you follow the canyon beyond the village, up to its end, you find, hidden behind a waterfall, a tunnel that leads to the dolphins (and that's another story).

Portal to the forest

This is the hexagonal portal at the edge of the lake, beneath a low cliff (position 9 on the map). Going through it will take you to the forest, where you'll find a gentle atmosphere, a winding river, a lake, a sprinkling of toadstools, and the following:

1. A small portal in a fairy ring that will take you back to the origin.
2. A big portal that will take you to the canyon.
3. A celtic cross at the edge of the water, with mysterious symbols on it (whose significance no one has yet deciphered), which plays music as you approach it.
4. A picnic table with an apple and a dice on it. If you pick up the dice, you'll be thrown into the dice game.
5. The dice avatar. This is not the one on the picnic table, but a genuine avatar, found at the water's edge near some toadstools.

Good World

There is, as far as I know, no direct route to Good World; so strictly speaking there isn't a portal to it. It seems that you're sent there on occasions in the game as a special treat, presumably because the spirit is pleased with what you've been doing.

I know of three ways to get there.

1. Play the 'Sprite Ballet' game (which you start by shooting the moon in the tree). When you've hit all ten sprites, you'll be taken up into space for a dance with some crystals, and from there you'll be deposited in Good World.

2. Take the space arrow flight by going through the right hand ringhead at position 7 on the map. When the arrow leaves you at the big spaceship, make your way back towards the planets. There are two comets - one roaming free among the planets, and one circling the pink ringed planet. If you fire at this second, orbiting comet and succeed in hitting it three times, it seems that you save the universe and are transported to Good World.

3. Go the the ring tree on the circular ridge and touch the apple hanging from it. This enables you to shoot apples. Then seek out the three green trees and fire apples at each one in turn. (You need to be quick, or you run out of apples to shoot.) If you manage to get all three, you'll go to Good World. [Thanks to The Thin Man for reminding me of this method.]

In Good World itself you'll find a ring of spiky balls, a cloud of dandelion seeds, a guitar avatar, and a few firebeings darting about, all amidst a coloured, ever-changing, cloud-like background. To get home, look out for a tubular bell in the distance which, as it comes nearer, transforms into a flying horse. Touch the horse to return home.
