Btw - is Mike singing this?

No. The vocals are by Wendy Roberts ("I Got Rhythm") and Pierre Moerlen. See here, scroll down to "Cover versions".

Ahh - thought the voice might be too high for Mike's - but couldn't be sure. Maybe when he was younger he could sing alto I thought. :)

No, AFTER his bells dropped..

Been a few singers with high voices - Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson, Brian Ferry, Simon Le Bon ...   :D

Oops that was his Sister in The Sallyangie

High pitched Males in Pop/Rock always sell (And are for the most part the best IMO).

Matt Bellamy from Muse is a favourite of mine....amazing range in his voice

@ Milamber: of course they sell, because it's somewhat unnatural for a male to have a high-pitched voice, so when any male with that peculiar feature pops up, it's actually harder for him to pass unnoticed than to be successful. :) In the Sallyangie duo, Mike was 15 ad his voice was quite high-pitched too. It got lower because of his age and because of the fact that after the Sallyangie he grew more and more uninterested in singing, so he didn't use his voice as often as his hands. :D

@ bee: Matt Bellamy has just as much power in his falsetto voice as he has in his normal voice. This is highly unusual.

I really hope, that the entire album will be newly mixed. What about the Deluxe Editions is the idea of that, we are getting new mix along with the remastered version of the original on the second CD ofcourse. I like it, because i can discover a new little ones in the music that i know for years. Really love it! My wish is also to get original Sally track instead of Into Wonderland. That second track could be added as the bonus track or so. I think there was not much rare tracks and singles from that era so all of them could fit on the second disc along with remastered version of the album.

I would like at least a couple of tracks remixed - like he did with "Diana Desiderata" on Disk 2 of Incantations. That's the sort of thing I like.

Well, Incantations Disc 2 is special in some way and i like so much this music, but those 2011 mixes are the music never release before. So we couldn't really compared this new mixes with old ones. And the comparision of the new mixes with the old ones is the best thing i liked in the new releases of Oldfield's albums. So the best thing for me would be the entire album remixed.

BTW it would be nice to see Deluxe Edition of Platinum album in this year :) It supposed to be a "wave" of deluxe editions, but so far they release only Incantations...

Is there something about the copyright coming back to Mike Oldfield after 35 years ? If so, that would mean he can't release the remaster until around 2014, there was a bit of a gap between Incantations & Platinum after releasing 4 albums(including a double) in a relatively short time.

If that was the case, Incantations wouldn't have been published until 2013.

PLATINUM is one of Mikes lesser Virgin albums.
I wondered how an ultimate rerelease of that album would look like.

Which bonus tracks should be on it?
Should we include lyrics, liner notes and some nice photographs?

TRACKLIST

Airborne
Platinum
Charleston
North Star
Woodhenge
Into Wonderland
Punkadiddle
I Got Rhythm

Guilty
Blue Peter
Sally
Punkadiddle (live)
Guilty (extended)

A good opportunity to release Sally again.
I used to mix it from bootleg sources into the live version
of Punkadiddle (b-side Five Miles Out). It rocks ...
I think it's good to seperate the 4 parts of Platinum.

cd 1 remastered/remix album with sally + b sides including into wonderland

cd2 : demos or live concert

dvd 5.1 remix

No news at all. I'm just listening to the 1980 concerts and keep my fingers crossed that they will include a live version of Platinum. They are so great. I love all the variations of North Star so much. Each single performace is an outstanding celebration... great vocals, funky percussion, mesmerizing synths

Further on-line catalogue listing:

No mention of a specific release date other than "2012. The special de Luxe version of Platinum",  but momentum seems to be growing, so let's keep our fingers crossed for a release very soon!
