This just added on the Official Mike Oldfield Information Service web site:

"In addition to Mike recently announcing he is working on the "project of a lifetime" (more news will follow shortly), Platinum and QE2 Deluxe editions have been announced in Switzerland. Further information to follow as soon as it is available."

I'm very curious what the QE2 deluxe will include...the Wonderful Land clip definitely but there is no special 7" stuff. Maybe the Nottingham concert which was released (30 min excerpts) by Virgin/Festival Records in Australia. The Montreux recording is not owned by Virgin/Universal so we won't get it once more.

It would be nice to see new stereo and 5.1 mixes of entire albums... :)

There's Polka [Live] and there is the 7" edit of Wonderful Land to start with.

Overnight, Amazon UK have added listings, indicating a release date of 23rd July.   Formats include 1-Disc CD, 2- Disc DeLuxe Edition and Vinyl for both Platinum and QE2.   They haven't as yet posted any track details for either title.

Mike's Official site has just posted details of the forthcoming releases with track information.   Interesting to note that the live content on Platinum Deluxe seems to be drawn from Wembley Arena 1980.   And no original "Sally" nor "All Right Now" (sigh!;).

That's just confusing… the Universal site says that the deluxe edition of Platinum has "Into Wonderland" on it (no mention of "Sally" at all) but the single disc version (which is just the 2000 remaster again) lists the track as "Sally."

I'm not expecting that Universal would be so crass as to not include the original "Sally" on the deluxe edition but have it on the single disc version so that fans have to buy both (I really hope not anyway), so the inconsistent labeling seems weird.

They've had the 2000 remaster available for download for a good while, and the fact it lists Sally is just a relic from the Virgin editions which also listed it (but in fact contained Into Wonderland). As far as I know, the fact that it's still listed there is just an error and the new single disc edition will be the 2012 remaster with Into Wonderland on it. Hope that clears up any confusion!

*sigh*

how very disappointing.

Just what have they been doing for the past year to create such an anaemic release?

Another wasted opportunity - as realistically - are these recordings ever going to be re-visited again?

Shame.

An official link.

Platinum deluxe

No gorilla version of Sally, no Allright Now and also
The Path (recorded in 1979) is absent on this rerelease.

The Path might resurface later, but the other two were overlooked.
Just like Don Alfonso wasn't included on Hergest Ridge deluxe.

Maybe Universal has no entry to the non-official Oldfield releases
or the master tapes were lost or hard to find.

I guess that was the problem with Don Alfonso (the full version was only on a Virgin sampler).
To trace down a decent master of the flexidisc or the deleted Sally might have been difficult.

But it's a pity ofcourse.
I'm curious about that longer North Star version.
And ofcourse the live cd has an interesting set list.

But no dvd this time?

The Path was recorded in 1976 actually.

Annoyed that Sally won't be there.  I'd have thought it was a shoo-in.   :(

Can't resist waving cheerfully at Jules. Long time: hope you're well?

And also ... I think this special Platinum release with its live tracks may be one I'll actually buy. That 1980 tour was the only time I ever saw Mike live. Admittedly not at Wembley, but still, it'd be nice to have a reminder of that tour.

Ya know what - I'd have settled for "needledrop" versions of the missing tracks.

I'm out of touch with this sort of stuff, but maybe someone can enlighten me? I've never seen Wembley 1980 available as an 'unofficial' live recording (I know of maybe a dozen or so from other years and venues), so this new Platinum special release looks pretty desirable to me and I'll certainly buy it. So have I missed something? Has the Wembley 1980 show been available already, somewhere?
