On cdon there's no cover image as yet, and the one on the other sites dosen't look very good?

Not yet decided whether or not to buy this collection, personaly prefer a whole album and not compilations with part of this/part of that album. There's always going to be that one.two, three or more tracks you wish had been included as well.Pity can't go "pick n mix" down at the record store ;)  :) But this one does seem like good value for money, can't moan at that :D

I can see a Lot of People Burning the 3rd Disc if its available
and not bothering with the Others ... These type of Box sets
end up in the Bargain Bins in 3 or 4 years anyway !!

Look at the 2 GENESIS BOX sets ARCHIVE   ...Now thats
the Sort of thing that gets you EXCITED !!! 4 CDS and 3CDS
full of Rare Demos Unreleased Live etc  .. Now thats whats
you call interesting !! So Virgin do know how to market
things if the material is out there!! A MIKE Archive Box
now thats INTERESTING  not Boring old rehashes  :D

I have mixed emotions about this box set, I'm excited by the extended mixes of Shadow On The Wall, To France and Moonlight Shadow   :) . The 12" versions on CD3,  worth getting to complete the collection, even though I don't care so much for Islands, Heaven's Open and Earth Moving as I do with Mike's other albums.

I'm pondering the question who is this Platinum Collection aimed at? The record buying public who think Mike is just about Tubular Bells, People who are about to discover the pleasure Mike's music can bring, serious fans/collectors, well I don't think it's aimed at the latter.  Given the price as £12.99, yes it's a very reasonable price.

I do think some of the tracklisting is a bit of a dissapointment,  is the opening part of Tubular Bells ,or the explosive ending to Ommadawn Part 1   really neccesary?  Saying that hearing that  excerpt of Ommadawn on a compilation really started my interest in Mike's music.

For me I'd like to  see Mike's Reel, WoI "Lurker" mix, In Dulci Jubilo (for Maureen)or if it's around the German lyric IDJ,  Blue Peter without sudden ending and also Froggy Went A Courting  :) included on a compilation, to name but a few, add to this "Cook's Tune", don't know why it was left off L&S  I'm prepared to pay a more for a quality compilation with plenty of liner notes
and pictures

Addenum  added 4 th Feb 10.42 am :- Or alternatively why not do the same as Led Zeppelin had done with the "Remasters"  in 1990, There was a more basic 2 CD edition, plus a 4 CD box with a quality booklet with pictures and liner notes, and previously unavailable tracks, aimed at LZ collectors rather than the record buying public in general.

Ive just been on "Pats Mike Oldfield Page"   I wouldnt be
complaining if a lot of this was included on a Box Set !!!
I just listened to the "ADLIB TK" and a few others  Its just
great !! As long as a few Hits are mixed up in with this
Stuff I dont think it would effect sales in any way . I think
if you put rare unreleased stuff on front of a Box it actually
encourages sales rather than detracts IMO  ;)

Hello everyone.
Must confess from the outset that although I have owned a number of MO releases in the past I have none just now. When I heard about this Platinum Collection and read the track list I was delighted and eager to preorder. I found it on CD-Wow UK for just £10.99 and was about to order when it vanished! Perterbed I wrote to CD-Wow and the reply I received has me utterly confused! I quote:

"Our supplier simply told us that the label had withdrawn this one and so wouldn't be releasing it at all. Or not yet anyway. So we have withdrawn it from the site and refunded people who bought it from us as a pre-release title (so don't have any regrets about not buying yesterday).
Whether it's a universal situation, or whether it might later become available, we really don't know yet.
We generally work quicker than Amazon on these things too, so they might well take it off their site in a while to."

Do any of you know just what's going on? Is it being released or isn't it??

No wonder I couldn't find it - spelling "colllection" with three "L"s indeed! So which of you are bidding on this then? Just kidding ;)

Well at least I'm now convinced it exists anyway, in some form. Maybe someone at Virgin/Emi reads this thread and has seen the need for some last minute tweaking with the tracklist and/or cover and title.

Suddenly it's back on cd-wow UK so I've pre-ordered before it vanishes again. Cd-wow claims the release date is 20 March!! I think I've seen every date in March listed as the release date now :/ . Ah well, I'll have it before April anyway. Thanks for the support folks.

I guess it's the Pictures in the Dark extended version, just like the one on the 12" single (like you said alex). About the Millenium Bell: mmm, probably a radio version or something?
