I think parts of it could sound great and it would revive the tune, I love Crises, all 20 or so minutes of it!  :)   :)   :)

woo hay! Thanks Craig, I hope others feel the same  :)

I would love to hear Orchestral Crises, the contrast between synth, guitars and drums and trumpets, violins, percussion etc.

Mike, if you do indeed visit this forum, please do Mercury and your fans a favour and supervise this production!!!

I like particularly the powerful hard rock parts of Crises and I'm afraid I wouldn't like them so much if they were light-weight. :)

Some types of music do not orchestrate well. In my view, it is usually something that has a driving, beat that sounds odd when this is done. When orchestrated, such music often takes on a "hooked-on classics" or "muzak" quality, which is not the best thing.

I think "Orchestral Tubular Bells" works quite well, except for the "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho" bit, which has that beat, and does sound like "Hooked-On Classics".

There are some parts of Crises that I think would orchestrate quite well. I think it would be a challenge to orchestrate "The Watcher and the Tower", the "Crises" vocal section, and the motorcycle cops well.

It could be part of an 'Orchestral Mike Oldfield' album, cut down to just the bits that would orchestrate well!

Where are the motorbike bits? I must be cloth-eared when listening to Crises, not at much as my Uncle, who stated 'Mike Oldfield almost learnt to play these instruments'  :/

That is just my interpretation of it. Maybe I'm the cloth-eared one, and nobody agrees with me.

The "motorbike bit" is the section prior to the "Crises, Crises, you can't get away" section. The guitars sound to me like revving motorcycles, and there ARE siren sounds.

It would work excellently with all of its sections, except for the ones that are sung. :D

I would love to arrange Crisies for Orchestra :)

I think the vocal bits would be fine to do but one would have to accept that it will be a very different quality.

I listened to Crisies yeterday for the first time in ages and it is great and I can imagine that long huge buildup at the end with a full orchestra.

I think Mike's works that already use a large number of instruments (eg as overdubs) wouldn't necessarily suffer from being re-scored for orchestra, but I don't really see the point of it. But Crises in my opinion would be ruined if we lost that spare and jagged "green" synth sound.

I voted "no" because I thought the idea was to make an orchestral version of the whole album. I shuddered at the thought of an orchestra playing "Shadow on the Wall". Or Taurus III for that matter.
